Gombe United v Enyimba FC
Nigeria Professional Football League - Game 32
Venue: Pantami Stadium, Gombe
Date: Sunday, 12 October 2014
Time: 4 pm

Team News

The trio of Ugwu Uwadiegwu, Semiu Laidi and Raphael Boumsong remain on the sidelines while Meshack Chukwubuikem and Paul Godwin did not travel with the team.

Match Preview

From the point Austin Eguavoen took over from Maurice Cooreman, he has picked 13 points from 9 games with an away win against Bayelsa United in Week 22. In their last four home games, the Savannah Scorpions have only conceded one goal. The People's Elephant will definitely need to find a way past their disciplined hosts on Sunday and they can draw inspiration from their 5-2 mauling of Sharks.

But this really is not the best time to face the Desert Scorpions whose coach and former Enyimba manager, Eguavoen, is confident they can avoid relegation.

Match Facts

We are yet to win a game on the road in the League this season having lost 8 games and drawn 7. In the process, we have scored 8 goals while conceding 17, keeping just 3 clean sheets out of 15 away games this term. These clean sheets were kept in Week 1 against Sunshine Stars, Week 5 against Warri Wolves and Week 30 against relegation-battling Crown FC. All three games ended in a stalemate.

The Peoples Elephant have kept 14 clean sheets and conceded 19 goals in the League this season with only two of the goals conceded at home which were the 0-1 loss to their Abia rivals, Abia Warriors and 2-1 win against Enugu Rangers in Week 2 and 3 respectively. Invariably, Enyimba are yet to concede a goal since Week 3.

We hope we can get it right this Sunday in the Jewel of the Savannah against this relegation-haunted side because we have failed to score on the road in 8 games. The last time we scored outside Aba was in the 3-3 draw against our state rivals, Abia Warriors in Week 24 and we must do better, as our four away games in October are against teams battling the drop.

We drew at 19th placed Crown on Sunday 5, we face Gombe United this Sunday, and next in line are Kaduna United on the 19th and bottom of the table Nembe City on the 26th.

We are yet to defeat Gombe United in our last three visits to the Pantami Stadium.
