Caution
If your skin is very dry do not apply lemon juice directly as it may increase the dryness. Use a combination of honey and lemon juice instead. The same applies to a sensitive skin. Going out in the sun after applying lemon juice is not advisable.

One of the most sought-after ingredients in the kitchen, the lemon is fast-becoming a beauty ingredient as well. Packed with vitamin C, calcium, and potassium, it has many amazing benefits. It is being used in hair care and skincare products.

Lemon juice acts against acne scars, blemishes, blackheads, and dark spots on the skin. It reduces oiliness and brightens the complexion. It's easily available and equally easy to use. Rich in vitamin C, it acts as a good nourishment for the skin.

Here is a look at the benefits of lemon juice along with information on how to use it for certain skin problems.

Brightens the Skin
Lemons are packed with vitamin C, which helps lighten and brighten your skin. Apply some freshly squeezed lemon juice at night, and wash off with cold water in the morning, for a healthy and beautiful skin. It is more effective if the procedure is repeated every alternate day. Apply a mixture of equal parts of honey and lemon juice if your skin is dry.

Removes Blemishes
A clear complexion comes at the price of lemons! Lemon juice is very effective in removing blemishes and giving you a clear skin. It will take some time, and regular application. If you suffer from melasma or have brown spots or patches on your face, apply lemon juice on the area and wash off after 15 minutes. Follow this procedure in the morning and evening. After a couple of weeks, you will find your spots fading.

Lightens Dark Spots
Lemon juice lightens dark spots, age spots, and burn marks, since it has vitamin C. Mix 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and tomato juice, and add powdered oats to it. Apply this mixture on the face. Wash off with cold water after 15 minutes. Regular application will lighten dark spots, and reduce tan.

Reduces Acne
Lemons have antibacterial properties, which help reduce acne. Acne is caused by the clogging of pores due to dust and pollution. Lemon juice cleanses the pores to give you a healthy skin. Try this scrub to reduce acne: mix some baking soda with lemon juice and massage gently to your face. Wash off with cold water, to get a clean skin.

Removes Acne Scars

Mix equal parts of honey and lemon juice, add a pinch of turmeric powder to the mixture and apply to your entire face. Wash off with cold water after 20 minutes. Regular application of this pack will help the acne scars or marks fade away.

Ascorbic acid in lemon juice helps reduce oiliness. Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice with an equal quantity of water. Use a cotton ball or swab to gently dab the solution to your skin. Then apply your regular moisturizer. If your skin is very oily, you can use a face pack. Mix 2 teaspoons of fuller's earth, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and water to make a thick paste. Apply this mixture to your face and neck. Wash off once the pack dries.

Lightens Freckles
Although lemon juice won't completely remove your freckles, it will definitely lighten them. Just apply some lemon juice on the unwanted freckles using a cotton ball. After a month of regular application, your freckles will lighten. To prevent additional freckles from developing, apply a good sunscreen when you go out.

Exfoliates the Skin
If you have a dull skin, use lemon to exfoliate it. Make a paste of sugar, lemon juice, and water, and apply it to your face. Massage for a couple of minutes and wash off with cold water. Or take a slice a lemon, dip it in sugar, and massage your face with it. It helps remove dead skin cells, and reveals the softer skin beneath.

Reduces Wrinkles
Lemon juice is very effective in reducing wrinkles. Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice with an equal quantity of honey. Add some drops of almond oil to it. Apply this mixture on the face. Wash off with cold water after half an hour. Daily application is recommended for optimum results.

Astringent qualities of lemon juice make it an excellent toner. Just dab some lemon juice with a cotton ball on your face before applying a moisturizer. This will also help reduce the shine and excessive oiliness. Dilute the lemon juice by adding some rose water or plain water, if you have cuts, as they may sting. A mixture of cucumber juice and lemon juice is also a very effective toner.

Softens and Moisturizes the Skin
A mixture of lemon juice, olive oil, and honey is an amazing cleanser that softens and moisturizes the skin. Mix equal parts lemon juice, honey, and olive oil. Massage your skin with the mixture for a couple of minutes and wash off with cold water. You can also apply this mixture to your elbows, knees, and heels to moisturize them. Keep for 10 - 15 minutes and then wash off.
