Everyone expects students to land awesome jobs at big corporations, or discover an amazing business idea, and develop it into massive ventures, with the skills they have acquired back in school. This is however not the case. A research carried out by their Research and Development team, which involved students, teachers and resource persons from various leading tertiary institution around Africa, and some other parts of the world showed that, the major challenge schools face is the lack of relationship, between Students, teachers and organizations, that is, employers of labour.
What this means is, students are basically limited to what they are taught, and teachers most often teach what they are comfortable with. Organizations are the most innovative among this set, simply because they are faced with new challenges every now and then. Today they require this skill, tomorrow something else. Truth be told, schools have a lot going for them, and may not be quick enough to discover this fast-paced nature of companies, talk more of doing anything substantial about it.

We have seen a lot of technology-driven innovations in education. e-learning, e-library, Computer-based tests, and so on, all of which are very laudable. But the issue of relationship between students, teachers and companies have not been sufficiently addressed.

This is in order to help these students better understand the applications of their profession, and also, to acquire valuable industry-relevant skills too. This is different from the normal industrial training most students are exposed to, as it can run for any duration, and at any stage of a student’s course.
