Christians can't avoid it. The devil, their former master still wants their loyalty and worship, hence He won't just easily let them be. The Kingdom of God and that of the devil are in a great controversy, and this battle will last as long as the devil isn't eventually defeated.

But the good news, we don't actually fight in this battle; we simply claim the victory handed over to us by Christ, through faith.

Lastly, Christianity isn't all about avoiding hell. That's part of it though.

Christianity is about having a wonderful and personal relationship with God, through Christ.

There is no opting out of spiritual warfare as a believer in Christ. That's tantamount to burying your head in the sand like an ostrich and thinking that if you can pretend long enough that the Devil doesn't exist, he will leave you alone.

Until the Serpent is cast into the Lake of fire and the New Jerusalem comes down to earth, the Devil will always be making attempts to thwart the purposes of God in the creation, in the church and in the lives of men -especially believers. Even after the millenial reign, scripture says he will try again one last time.

That's why we are admonished in scripture:

1Peter 5v8 -Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; whom ye resist stedfast in the faith.

Ephesians 6v11 -Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph 6v13 -Wherefore take unto the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

James 4v7 -Submit yourself therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Its the devil you resist that flees from you, not the one you ignore. Pretending he doesn't exist or acting and being indifferent about his wiles will only keep him in your backyard -and eventually in your face.

Even so, the best way to resist him is not by being overly conscious and/or fearful of his works; but by growing in Christ-likeness and beholding His glory. The more you're changed into the image of the glory of Christ, the more it will be the devil looking over his shoulders -and not the other way round.

A good offence is the best defence.

You can't opt out since the devil and his agents never rest.
