I think they've been deceiving us too much "The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation will spend N152bn on the repair of three of the nation’s refineries in 2013. Details of the budget show that the total maintenance cost for the Port Harcourt Refinery by its original builders, basic engineering design for the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit and RFCC plant project is estimated at N76.779bn. A breakdown of the N76.779bn indicates that N43.5bn will be spent on the refinery’s rehabilitation, N32.646bn on the plant project and N636m on basic engineering design. The total estimated expenditure for the maintenance of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company is put at N43.12bn. The NNPC is planning to spend N41.879bn on the refinery’s rehabilitation; N159m on fire detection alarm systems; N286.2m on replacement of the HP BFW Pumps and Driver 101-P-02B; and N79.5m on the upgrade of the co-boiler instrumentation and burner management system. The corporation will spend N32.106bn on the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company. The breakdown of the N32.106bn shows that N31.441bn will go into its rehabilitation and N317.38m for the reconstruction of FCCU, gasoline tank (51TK14B) and purchase of accessories." http://www.punchng.com/news/nnpc-plans-to-repair-three-refineries-with-n152bn/color Punch of 25-12-2013 Please we need answers as to how 100's of billions of Naira was spent on Repair and rehabilitation and yet we are still saying the same thing we said in 2012 Close to 1 trn. Naira subsidy with no improvement. WE NEED ANSWERS!!! 4 Likes |

Did GEJ prosecute subsidy thieves since 2012 ? I have never seen a government that will make 190 million people suffer because of few friends or loyalists that are receiving subsidies. The problem is still corruption, start prosecuting subsidy thieves and the amount you spend on subsidy will reduce. PDP have been in power since 1999, pls give other parties chance and let's see what they can do .. Sincerely PDP hasn't bring much change to Nigeria since 1999. 2 Likes |

bushdoc9919:in as much as I get your point, I still vehmently disagree based on the well known fact that the money that would be saved from stopping the fuel subsidy would eventually land into the personal pockets of our corrupt leaders. Yes they claim that it would be used for d needed infrastructural debt in the country but we all know better. Eventually, we will loose at both ends; no subsidy and no improved standard of living. If they really want people to support fuel subsidy removal, they should first work on building the trust of the masses by tackling corruption down to its roots. We will be alot more receptive to change when we know d money will be channeled into the right place. |

4Play:,clearly u and that other commenter should be rounded up and burned at stake for not having the wisdom to know that to whom much is given much is expected. Educate urself and them politicians on strategic planning and management and u will realise u shouldnt wipe ur ass before using the toilet. The discourse on whether subsidy should go can only take place after planning on how the removal wont make life difficult for the masses. U must be self sufficient by some degree which are local refineries which must be built and run. When this is done automatically the quantity imported will drop over a period as also the cost of subsidy payments. The period it takes for local production to meey demand is the time taken to remove the subsidy not with filmsy reasons but because its no longer required. The advantage is that the cost will be on a downward trend till its stoppage. Question one . Since halfing the subsidy payments what strides have been acheived towards local production. How come the demand hasnt changed by more than 10% but we still pay the same or even higher subsidy payments as thougj its a full subsidy plan. I suggest u all tell urselves the truth and stop being partisan. The political class are a bunch of clueless theives 1 Like |

bushdoc9919: Dude, you are only trying to sound intelligent. I can tell you, you know nothing about what you speak. Tell us the ball-pack figure of how much these things cost. And don't forget to quote here, how much it cost to import PMS, DPK and AGO into the country and let's see if it's still profitable without subsidy funding. Ask yourself this, is there any oil company in Nigeria importing fuel without receiving subsidy funds from the government? I can answer this for you. 80% of the oil companies in Nigeria, goes about their normal oil importation business without receiving subsidy funds from the govenment, so the question now is, how do they turn profit? Then, why is the government selectively paying subsidy to some? You need to answer these, if you truly know anything about the topic being discussed. 1 Like |

The only thing the FG offer to the common on the street like me is fuel subsidy, everything else i pay for. Whenever these vampires think of austerity measures, they think of the only thing they offer the poor, the fuel subsidy. Until the finance minister, presidency, senators, rep members, other government workers and co are willing to slash their salaries, over bloated legal and illegal allowances and other freebies they enjoy, they cant talk of fuel subsidy removal. The only thing this country need to do to free up funds for capital projects and development,is to cut the cost of governance, if those wicked ogas at the top are not willing to do this, then let them stop talking about subsidy removal. |

And this problem of overbloated cost of governance is not a GEJ or PDP problem,as there are no sign to show that the APC is any better. APC have members on the senate house, house of rep. How many times have any of them raised a motion to slash the overbloated salaries and allowances? None. It's obvious that they part of the elite, they are used to luxurious life styles, and they cant stop now, so the poor must finance their life styles, which is why they look into subsidy removal and never to reduce the cost of governance. This is not a battle between APC and PDP,as they are two sides of the same coin, known as the elites. This is a battle between the elites and the commoners which i am part of. 2 Likes |

Eddygourdo: Before you send me to the stake consider this 1.Our refineries are not operating at full capacity 2.Even if they were operating at full capacity...we still have to import to make up the projected shortfall in domestic production (and recall that oil prices are very high....and are set to rise up). 3,And we are paying subsidy money, on top of the billions spent on importation(and some oil subsidies are being paid to importers) 4.And we are not producing enough fuel....we produce far less than the UAE and even Saudi. That is the problem....ultimately the oil money is not enough and the subsidy money needs to be spent on industrial support infrastructure...so that we can get off oil. Oil is a curse. |

Wot are dey subsidizing wen alrdy fuel price is @ N97, I believe Jonathan want 2 use dis money to campaign for election and to wot gud is dis administration wen d only increase we experience are negative increase while dia is great decrease in positive event. If govt want to judiciously use dis nations wealth let dem start by providing employment pay graduate b4 dey secure employment and stop d sales of generator make d power sector better to reduce consumption of fuel in order 2 increase exportation thereby reducing importation of fuel.and doing away wt corruption 2 make naija a better country |

Even with the partial removal of fuel subsidy two years ago,It's naturally expected that the budget set aside for subsidizing fuel products be drastically reduced. But no,the reverse is the case..whooping #1trillion,thats like consuming all your money on bread, when you can actually setup a bakery. Honestly, Nigerian govt makes been 'educated' look like a curse.. [color=#000099] |
