President Goodluck Jonathan’s commitment to end insurgency, ensure security and peace in Nigeria is the driving force for all engagements and negotiations with the extremist Boko Haram sect, a government spokesperson, Mike Omeri, has said. Mr. Omeri, the Coordinator, National Information Centre, said this on Friday while giving update on the ceasefire agreement reached between the Federal Government and Boko Haram sect to end insurgency in the country. “We can confirm to you that there have been contacts between the government and representatives of the Boko Haram. “The discussions are essentially in the relation to the general insecurity in the North-East and also the need to rescue all captives of the terrorists, including the students of Government Secondary School, Chibok. “From the discussion, they, terrorists, indicated their desire for and willingness to discuss and resolve all associated issues,’’ he said. According to him, they, terrorists, also assured that the school girls and all other people in their captivity are all alive and well. “Already, the terrorists have announced a ceasefire in furtherance of their desire for peace. In this regard, the government of Nigeria has, in similar vein, declared ceasefire,’’ he said. The coordinator assured Nigerians that the greater goal of the process was to ensure the return of normalcy to the country, especially in areas affected by the terrorist activities. Mr. Omeri said the negotiation was being facilitated by President Idris Derby of Chad, adding that the essence is to end terrorism, free the Chibok girls and all those in captivity. He said “no condition’’ was attached on the release of the girls and others. According to him, one of the commanders of the sect, Danladi Ahmadu, is representing the sect in the talks, while the Principal Private Secretary to the President, Hassan Tukur, is representing the government. Negotiating wit criminals!!!...Nigeria we hail thee...But why did Buhari refuse to represent them earlier?? won't he have contributed to saving the life of some of our soldiers and other Nigerians??But why the need to negotiate now, when we have already been spending billions of dollars to equip our army with more arms??Do we now fall for negotiation when we are already winning this war?? So many questions on my mind 1 Like |

Mogidi: If you knowingly lied that Boko Haram wanted Buhari to be their middleman, may you and your family know no peace of mind for the rest of your life. If you lied against Buhari, may you and your family witness the worst of terrorist attack in your family. If you lied against Buhari, may the worst of health problem befall you and whoever in your household. May the Lord bring sorrow to your home for the rest of your life if you lied that Boko Haram wanted Buhari to be their middleman. The only way you can survive these curses is if you told the truth about Buhari. Amen. 3 Likes |

Still nobody has told us the terms and conditions of the cease fire. Is it for our greater good? Will the commanders of the terrorist groups captured and other members be released? Are dey ready to surrender their arms and weapons? How long will the cease fire last? Are dey ready to surrender all captured territories? So many questions to be answered. Ceasefire is good but is it for the greater good of the nation? |

The National Leader of the Congress for Progressive Change, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has said he does not know any member of Boko Haram sect. Buhari said this in an interview with journalists at his party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday during the party’s Board of Trustees meeting. He also said he did not know any religion that would support the killing of innocent people and burning of schools. The former Head of State was among those the sect nominated on Thursday to mediate between it and the Federal Government at a meeting that must hold in Saudi Arabia. Buhari said, “I do not know any member of the Boko Haram sect. I do not believe and I do not know of any religion that will go and kill people, burn schools. “There was a stage where I mentioned that I agreed with one intellectual where he said there are three Boko Haram, one of Muhammed Yusuf, whom we know. “A leader of the military then in Maiduguri then did what we know in the military about internal security. They looked for Yusuf, they handed him over to the police; healthy young man and he died under a very dubious account in the police custody. “The second Boko Haram was a criminal attacking banks and market places stealing money. They issued a statement that they are Boko Haram, and I said and I have no regret saying it, that the biggest Boko Haram is the Federal Government itself, because it has all the powers to stop anarchy in the country. “Now the social part of the country has been paralised, economic activities have stopped. People are no longer thinking of employment, they are thinking of what to eat and how to go about the following day.” Buhari said the BOT reviewed what transpired in the party from the time of the elections through the tribunals to the Supreme Court. He said, “Among the things discussed is the matter of merger which has occupied the minds of most Nigerians. The only realistic way of consolidating the multi-party democracy system is for opposition parties to come together and fight the ruling party Peoples Democratic Party.” http://www.punchng.com/news/i-dont-know-any-boko-haram-member-buhari/ |
