Some Nigerians have expressed displeasure over the outcome of a poll published by President Goodluck Jonathan’s Special Assistant on New Media Reno Omokri, which they allege was rigged.



The poll published on October 16 by the president’s aide, generated discussions over the weekend as Jonathan was behind Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari in the poll: “If the Nigerian Presidential election were held today, who would you vote for between President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari?” As at 18:36 Nigerian time on October 18, Buhari had raked 69.98 percent of votes against the president’s 26.65 percent.



The poll has now closed and Jonathan won with 13,111 votes(49.3 percent) against Buhari’s 12,875 (48.41 percent).



The poll was put up apparently to counter one done by Sahara Reporters on October 15, which ran through an independent third-party service identified as POLL and ended with Buhari beating the president by a wide margin. However, the way the result was going on Saturday raised comments directed towards Omokri, who Nigerians on Social Media expressed pity for, insinuating that the result of the poll may lead to his sack.

With the poll now closed and the president having won, some Nigerians have cried foul, saying the government had just shown how the 2015 elections would be conducted.

Omokri is yet to respond to allegations of rigging levelled against him in the conduct of the poll.
