1. Africa is the second-largest continent in the world, and has a land mass of 30,221,532 km². So massive that you can put 13 of the world’s biggest countries (China and U.S included) in it and they will fit in perfectly.

2. Africa’s biodiversity is among the largest and richest in the world.

3. Africa is the only region in the world that was completely and totally conquered by the Europeans.

4. Before the Europeans came to Africa to start the business of slavery, the Arabs had already been in the business for 1400 years.

5. Africa is the second most populated continent in the world with approximately 1 billion people.

6. The Congo River in East Africa is the 2rd largest and most powerful river in the world and can provide 24hr electricity for the whole continent of Africa.

7. The majority of slaves that was taken from Africa was from West Africa, Nigerian and particularly the Niger Delta region.

8. The enslavement and export of Africans to the Western world lasted for about 400 years.

9. After slavery the colonization of Africa lasted for about 100 years.

10. In terms of natural resources AFRICA IS THE RICHEST CONTINENT IN THE WORLD; Coltan for example is a mineral resource used in making almost all the important electronics in the world including your mobile phone. Most of the world’s coltan is in Africa, particularly in Eastern Congo.

11. Africa has the poorest people in the world; and its people have never gained much from its enormous wealth.

12. Even though Africa has 1 billion people it still has a very low population density, in other words the continent is still largely under-populated.

13. 50% of the world’s arable land is in Africa; in other words, 50% of the world’s most fertile and cultivatable land is in Africa. This is enough land to single-handedly feed itself and the whole world.

15. In terms of population, Nigeria is the largest country in Africa, and inhabits about 20% of Africa’s population.

16. Africa has the most uneducated people in the world with Nigeria alone having more that 10 million school-aged children out of school.

17. Africa is probably the most religious continent in the world.

18. Christianity and Islam were external religions brought into Africa by foreign powers.

19. Getting capital to start a business is more difficult in Africa than in most other parts of the world.

20. Majority of Africans live under a system of government that favours the minority over the majority.

21. When it comes to corruption Africa is about the most corrupt region in the world.

22. In terms of Human Development, Africa is the most backward region in the world.

Africa is not the largest continent in the world, its Asia---do you know the major parts Russia (the largest country in the world) is in Asia? Talk more of large countries like China and India (sub-continent) which are also part of Asia. Btw, nice thread.

Fact: Africa has the largest desert in the world, It regularly snows in some part of Africa. Africa is made up of other countries outside the continent e.g. Sao tome, Seychelles, Mauritius, cape Verde etc. The largest species of plant on earth is found in the rainforest belt of the continent, the continent is the conglomeration of all the races in the world. A country in Africa (Nigeria) is the only country in the whole world that has contained the world dreaded virus (Ebola)... LOL!!!
