News has it that it was one of the weapons drops parachuted to the Kurds that missed and found its way through to the ISIL side. Mistakes do happen in these kinds of circumstances.
But this weapon cache would not give ISIL a victory if you look at the big picture.

Some people even think that they are bugged with GPS transmitters so as to track ISIL fighters.

To the people saying that America started ISIL, it doesn't make you sound smart at all. ISIL/ISIS/IS started from Al Qaeda in Iraq who went to fight in Syria and basically took advantage of the Syrian war and the weak Iraqi military.

Yes, the US (republican) govt messed up by invading Iraq but saying that they started ISIL is unsubstantiated and just sounds dumb.

You don't have to rehash every conspiracy theory you find on the internet.

Oga stop posting things you don't have details of. Those weapons were meant for Kurdish fighters in Kobane but some of them incidentally fell into the hands of ISIS. It wasn't a deliberate act. Stop making it look as though the US is deliberately arming the terrorist group.

The other day, a picture of Boko Haram armoury was posted with some bearing the inscription "office of the chief of army staff". Does it necessarily mean the weapons were "supplied them"by the chief of army staff
I don't know what journalists stand to gain from disseminating false propaganda, trend has become unbecoming in recent times, if this could happen in well organized medium ,then little blame should be given to their Nigeria counterparts.

It is authoritative and you know it deep inside your heart. The same thing happened in Libya.

The Pentagon later said it had targeted
the missing bundle in an air strike and
destroyed it.

Obama ignored intelligence and military advice and pulled out of Iraq. Isil took advantage of the void. Yea the republicans started the war in Iraq, but it was almost over when Obama decided to pull out arbitrarily and leave a weak Iraqi army in charge. That's why Clinton and petreaus are now coming out to question his decision making.

The only way isis can be defeated is by sending ground troops into syria and iraq, air raids won't deter them because they are already adapting to the air strikes by hiding among the populace. The us wouldn't want to blow up isis fighters with civilians altogether.. If no ground troops are sent to syria and iraq, both countries will be laid to waste by isis.

Obama didn't ignore any intelligenve and military advice,he simply abided by the terms of the Status of Forces agreement signed by Bush in 2008, The Iraqi govt refused to grant the residual forces whom might have remained immunity, so Obama was left with no choice.

The US leaving 5000 military personnel wouldn't have made any difference to the Iraqi army in its fight wit ISIS anyway, the country was deeply split along sectarian lines no thanks to Al-Maliki's witchhunting of his Sunni adversaries.

Its always easy for folks like Clinton,Gates,Panneta to criticise the govt in order to sell books anyway, weren't they part of the administration?

Some people are just too dumb. Someone is asking me for source. Can't you see where I indicated CNN in the topic or can't you see CNN boldly written in the pix?
If you doubt tune to CNN.

It's easy to quickly dismiss this on the grounds of "accidental drop" but we all know the whole ISIS gra gra is a false flag operation to justify the need for a broader military response culminating in the overthrow of Assad in Syria.

I am super super shocked at the rational argument you just put forth......Now if you could just apply the same brain wave when analyzing issues relating to Nigeria.

Weapons were meant for kurdish fighters defending kobane not Isis. It's unfortunate isis got some part of the supplies though only a small part of it. It's not impossible that there is some noisome intrigue between the US and IS but nothing on ground lends any credence to that theory. This will definitely be grist to the mill of conspiracy theorists

What's surprising here? Al-Qaeda is the handiwork of US . What else?

You are making sense, but to every conspiracy theory there is an element of truth in it. For one, the US did arm fighters in Afghanistan in the 80's to rebel against soviet rule. These same fighters turned out to be the Taliban who fought against US. So if people say US armed ISIS, it may be true. I don't have the full details so I can't make any comment. But how can weapons be "accidentally" dropped to ISIS zones?

Looking at it, America really has nothing to gain from creating deadly terrorist groups in the Middle East because these guys pose more danger to US citizens in the long run. US doesn't rely so much on their oil anymore. They only want to maintain their ME presence in order to maintain the East/West rivalry between them and Russia/China.

If you followed the news closely over the past 2-3 years, you'd remember that the US was reluctant to arm the so-called "moderate" Syrian rebels. They mostly gave them non-lethal equipment such as binoculars, radios, body armor etc while Qatar & Saudi armed the Sunni rebels. It wasn't until the past few months that the US openely started arming them.

And yes, it's plausible that the weapons meant for the Kurds ended up with ISIL because the Kobane warfront is not clearly defined. Kobane isn't a big city anyway. And remember that the transport planes are dropping these things from 000s of feet above. According to the Dept of Defense, 2 packs were actually lost but they were able to destroy only 1 thereafter.
