Expect to see Medical students and Doctors using your body and ailments as subject of study. They even ask you questions like they'll provide immediate solution.

For me to access a health facility e.g teaching hospital,I do take casual leave ,since you will never be attended to under 24hrs. You get a card after payment, folder is open, then comes the series of unending questions from the student doctors-you will think that the round of questions have ended only for their 'Chief' to start repeating same questions all over again- very frustrating.

What do we say to the very rude and I don't care attitude of the nurses-very disgusting. For me-public hospitals just don't appeal to me-they kill my spirit

No, it really doesn't work that way. If you work in a local hospital where you are the boss, yes- you can afford to leave your patients unattended, if your matron can cover your ass.

If you work in a teaching hospital as a consultant with capable hands I.e senior regs and very good regs, well, they can run the clinic while you run your private gig once in a while. Most times, doctors start seeing patients late because of morning reviews, ward rounds and co.
Not because they are coming from private clinics.

If you are the CMO or you are the boss in a general hospital, you can try it because MOs, SMOs are on ground. But just once in a while, maybe.

But if you are an MO, a Registrar, even Senior Reg and you are not available between the regular operational hours, you better have a darn good excuse because your superiors will fry you! There is so much discipline in teaching hospitals and even regular government hospitals. Ask the doctors where they work, their rank and you will understand what I'm saying.

The ratio of doctors to patients coupled with bureaucracy is the major cause of the delay patients experience at government hospitals.

Seems like making excuses for incompetent health care workers. Rather than have patients wait in line for hours and then send them home, why not just use an appointment method. It's better to wait 3 months with a guarantee to be seen that keep coming back everyday and being sent home. It is also unbelievable that an emergency would need a referral. The problem is the system not the frustrated patients.

What he said Nigerians do is not peculiar to Nigerians. Therefore, defining Nigerians in such context is not okay by me.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT: CAN YOU SAVE PA ALEX?

Pa Alex, 60 was hosting his daughter’s wedding reception. A typical Nigerian, he was determined to make the most of the opportunity and he sweated out his rotund frame on the dance floor gyrating and spraying currency on his baby. Then all hell broke loose. He collapsed. In the commotion that ensued, he slipped away silently...

Help save Pa Alex at http://www.primerhealth.com.ng/2014/10/basic-life-support-can-you-save-pa-alex.html?m=1

That's for clinics. It's part of being a third world country.
The average waiting time is close to a week in UK. To see a GP or A Specialist as the case may be

does it make it any different? We all know it is not peculiar to Nigeria. but a good majority do fit his stereotype.

THE DANGERS OF MP/WIDAL

I shall begin with a story, of course. As a doctor, one of your greatest challenges in practice will be people you know. So one person I know called me some days ago sounding very urgent. Her friend was quite sick with fever and vomiting and stomach pain. No diarrhea. They had done the standard test Nigerians now habitually arm themselves with: Malarial parasite (MP) and Widal test.
The MP was negative and the Widal test was positive and thus they were quite confident it was Typhoid. I was to give them prescriptions for Typhoid fever over the phone. I sighed ...
