Match Preview

Enyimba make a trip to Port Harcourt to face Dolphins FC who sits 7th on the table with 54 points.

Joint top scorer in the Glo Premier League with 20 goals, Mfon Udoh will go head to head with his fellow Akwa Ibomite, Emem Eduok who is also on 20 goals to break Jude Aneke's record before the season ends.

Udoh surely would be looking to replicate his form in the reverse fixture where he scored 10 minutes into the game which proved to be the winner in Aba. A goal on Sunday and he will become the first to break the 20 goals record set by Jude Aneke in 2011.

Match Facts

Lately, the Peoples Elephant have been impressive on the road, recording two straight away wins against relegated clubs. First, the 1-0 win in Kaduna in Week 34 and their last game against Nembe City in Omoku which ended 1-2. These victories saw them become the first team to earn maximum points in two consecutive away wins this season.

Hopefully, this run of form continues in order to see them wrest the title from the grasp of Kano Pillars. On the road this term, Enyimba have scored 12 goals in 18 games and kept 4 clean sheets.

On the other hand, Dolphins have an impressive home form, drawing just 3 games out of 18, a 1-1 draw to Giwa FC in Week 2, and barren draws to Rangers and Sharks in Week 6 and Week 25 respectively, the only games they failed to score in Port Harcourt. Stanley Eguma's men have only conceded 4 goals at home this season which shows how disciplined they are defensively. They are yet to let in a goal in the past 270 minutes of football at home.

Their biggest victory of the season came in Week 35 in their last home game where they demolished Nembe City 6-0 with Emem Eduok scoring all 6 and increasing his goal tally to 19 in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Kadiri Ikhana's men meanwhile are confident they can break down the Port Harcourt side's defense and close in on leaders, Kano Pillars before the potential title decider in Aba a week later. Their last two games against Dolphins in Port Harcourt have ended in draws with both teams conceding a single goal in the process.

Clash of two Marksmen: Emem Eduok vs Mfon Udoh

The setting will be at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt, and it is just the first of two plots involving two men who have painted the Glo Premier League with goals this season. Emem Eduok of Dolphins and Enyimba's Mfon Udoh have 40 league goals in between them and are currently tied on 20 goals apiece, having equalled the 20-goal in a single season set by Jude Aneke in 2011.

The first of the two plots between Eduok and Udoh takes place on Sunday, 2nd November, 2014 before they clash again in the Federation Cup final on the 23rd November.

For Udoh and his Enyimba teammates, they are chasing a record seventh league title while Eduok and Dolphins are chasing their fourth.

It was not the best of start to the season for the two players in terms of goalscoring as they could not hit the double figures after 19 games, quite a slow note that saw them score a combined 14 goals between themselves. Mfon Udoh after the first round scored eight goals while Eduok had two less.

But the Eduok and Udoh had different targets at the start of the season.

"My target is to score 20 goals and to help my team become champions of the Glo Premier League," said Udoh, who scored 15 goals last season.

Eduok, who netted less than 10 goals last season, had said: "I am hoping to score 15 goals this season."

Udoh is on the verge of surpassing his personal target having hit his 20th with a double strike on Match Day 36 in Omoku against Nembe City while Eduok has added five to the 15 goals he aimed for. Both are now looking to create a new individual scoring record in the elite division in a single season.

Eduok, who had not been in the reckoning for the top shot award, broke and set a new individual record when he hit six goals past Nembe City in Dolphins' 6-0 win in Port Harcourt. In the process, he consigned the previous long standing record (4 goals) by an individual in a single match which stood in the name of Victor Ezeji and was equalled earlier in the season by Sharks Christian Pyagbara.

Nevertheless the two players, who have in the past played for their hometown club, Akwa United, at different times will come toe to toe on Sunday in an epic clash in the Garden City that could decide where Enyimba's title ambition lies as well as who could likely become the first man to score 21 goals in a single season in the Glo Premier League.
