Top officials of Crown FC pay price for demotion:

Top officials Fatai Olayinka and Tony Rafau have been fired by Crown FC after the club made an instant return to the Nigerian lower league.

Crown will be relegated as they are second from bottom of the league on 36 points from 37 matches and this means they will make a prompt return to the lower league after they won promotion the previous season.

A top government official disclosed team manager Olayinka and general manager Rafua have been relieved of their posts for “lack of proper direction”.

They have also been paid off just as players of the club will now receive their outstanding three months’ salaries.

Earlier this season, coach Lawrence Akpokona was shown the door twice.

FIFA writes Pinnick, congratulates Kano Pillars

World football –governing body, FIFA has kept its pledge of monitoring intensely events in Nigeria football, as the body on Thursday congratulated newly –crowned Nigeria Premier League champions, Kano Pillars.

In a letter addressed to NFF President, Mr. Amaju Pinnick and personally signed by FIFA President, Mr. Joseph S. Blatter, FIFA commended the entire Kano Pillars family for a job well done and also highlighted the capacity of football to transform societies.

“I know that behind this success are the belief and effort of everyone involved. This is a true team victory, and all of you deserve to share in the accolades: the players and coach of course, but also the technical and medical staff, and not least, the loyal fans. The dynamism and commitment of the Kano Pillars team have enabled them to win this title for the 3rd time in succession.

“Football is proving more than ever that it can transcend traditional boundaries to become a real driver of development. It enables players at all levels to develop their individual skills, tactical understanding and personal dynamism, all the while strengthening team spirit.

“Football is truly a school for life and I am convinced that everyone, and in particular the young people of today, can benefit from playing football on both a social and personal level. That is why I urge them all in Kano Pillars to continue their work, leading the way on this path of success. Football is helping to build a better future and I wish to thank Kano Pillars for playing a part in this.”

Pillars earned their third straight Nigerian title, with one game to play, after defeating Nembe City 4-0 in Kano last weekend.

Meanwhile, To allow for protests arising from some of the season’s fixtures to be conclusively disposed of, the League Management Company (LMC) has announced the postponement of Match Day 38 games of the 2013/14 Glo Premier League to Sunday, November 16.

The season was heading to an end on Sunday, November 9 but the Chief Operating Officer of LMC, Salihu Abubakar said a decision has been reached to shift the end games by another week.

“Some of the protests will affect the final declaration of position of clubs on the log and we are aware that Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a November 30 deadline for return of entries for representatives of member federations seeking to play in any of the continental club championships”, Abubakar explained.

“The LMC is committed to protecting the integrity of all match results and will therefore await pronouncement of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) relevant committees on the outstanding protests in the coming days. This way there won’t be any spill over games after the final day of matches”, Abubakar further clarified.

He said the LMC regrets any inconveniences arising from this but insisted it was the right decision to have taken in the circumstance.

Yes...that was the time when the European leagues were not that profitable...and very restrictive to non-European players.

Then came Bosman, the Champions league, Cable Satellite TV...and Television money.

Good question

1.All clubs must have youth academies....where players of tomorrow are properly trained.

2.All clubs must own their stadiums...and good training facilties.

3.All matches must be shown on television....on as many TV platforms as possible....and to do that, we can set up a Nigerian Premier league footie channel....

4.More Nigerians must go and watch a match...because takings at the stadium form a huge part of financing for clubs.

5.Study what Belgium did to improve their football....and implement accordingly.

6.Clubs must no longer be run by state governments.

7.Player salaries must be improved...and paid on time.

my only problem is dat there is not much income comin in to dis club aside government quota! If we realy want to help dis league, look at the numerous leagues in europe, they excel due to local followership b4 foreigners embraced it. Government shud put a rule down dat all local tv station shud show one Npfl match live frm there kids can watch at home and later everyone wil watch fall in love a team, frm high view frm d populace, adverts will follow, sponsors wil b glad to associate wit dis teams. Nigeria is a huge market alone for any football franchise to blossom!

Well done Kano Pillars, standing tall among contemporaries. Kwankwaso's 28 car and cash gifts for winning last year must have truly motivated the boys to keep towering above other clubs. The government's donation of sporting equipments and cash valued at N175m to 20 football clubs from each of the 44 local government areas of the state will no doubt help in developing fresh talent, and the game of football in Nigeria.

Sai Masu Gida!

• 1989 : Iwuanyanwu Nationale
• 1990 : Iwuanyanwu Nationale
• 1991 : Julius Berger
• 1992 : Stationery Stores
• 1993 : Iwuanyanwu Nationale
• 1994 : BCC Lions

• 2013 : Kano Pillars
• 2014 : Kano Pillars (winning it again)

You are mistaken about 1987 it was Leventis United that won the league that year (before being disbanded along with Abiola babes that same year). In 1987 leventis and Iwuanyanwu nationale had the same points, aggregate and goals scored but leventis had won more matches. That was how serious the competition was.
