[quote author=robosky02 post=27673900]Kano Pillars are Nigerian champions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kano Pillars have won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for the third successive time.
They now join Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland) and Enyimba as the only Nigerian clubs to have won the premier division three times on the bounce.

The Kano club emerged champions of the Nigerian top flight after defeating relegated Nembe City 4-0 on Sunday.
The League Management Company announced via its Twitter account: "It is technically official! Kano Pillars are Glo Premier League champions for a third consecutive season."

Azeez Shobowale scored twice while Gambo Mohammed returning from injury after several weeks out with a thigh injury got among the goals. The prolific Adamu Hassan also scored as Kano Pillars ran over City 4-0.

Second-placed Enyimba could not keep up the pressure and force the title race down to the final day as they held Dolphins to a 1-1.
Chidiebere Okolie put Dolphins ahead after 54 minutes and Enyimba were left to toil before Mfon udoh scored 21 minutes later.
Kano Pillars, now on 65 points, have opened a four-point lead over Enyimba, making the final game between the two sides next Sunday just elementary.

Warri Wolves who could have also forced the title race to the final day played out a surprise a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Gombe United.
Nazim Abutrika gave Gombe United a shock lead inside the opening of the quarter of an hour. Chigozie Agbim saved a penalty off Gbolahan Salami to preserve Gombe United's lead.

Sai masu gida. Pillars don reach enyimba and heartland record. Next season they are going to break the record.

rescheduled match:

Giwa FC inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Sharks in a Glo Premier League rescheduled match day 33 fixture which took place at the Fifa Technical Centre, Abuja on Wednesday morning.

The match, which was watched by former World Footballer of the Year and Liberian legend, George Weah alongside ex-Nigerian internationals, Emeka Ezeugo and Tijani Babangida, recorded the first goal of the game with seven minutes to the break.

Giwa FC had been knocking on the door of Sharks and Shuaibu Ibrahim did enough to fire home the opening goal of the match.

Sharks responded with a quickfire goal through Fortune Omoniwari in the 44th minute to send the game into the break on level terms.

But it was Giwa FC that got off the best start in the second half when Shuaibu Ibrahim scored his brace.

In the 53rd minute, Usman Nura Deenee took the ball and waltzed his way through the defence of Sharks with a mazy run before putting the pass to Ibrahim to score his 13th league goal of the season.

Nine minutes later, Thompson Stowe of Sharks forced Giwa FC goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo into a save to preserve his team's slim lead.

Sharks continued to push for an equaliser while Giwa FC defended in numbers, and even cleared off their goal-line.

Jos-based club, Giwa FC, held on for a win that helped them climb on the league table. Giwa FC are now sixth on the table with 56 points while Sharks are now 12th with 52 points.

So when has honeric01 and ajibel celebrated the epl over npfl Before you came, it was taiocol, evestar200, honeric and I that were updating about the league week in, week out.
If you create a thread on Pillars win, where is the pic for trophy presentation to back it up What of information about those relegated and qualifications to the Champions lge Nairaland doesnt give us much opportunity to have NPFL threads on FP, therefore, we should try and pack much relevant info into a thread and recommend to FP.

count down to last game

the country’s football ruling body has upheld the order of the League Management Company to a replay of the game between Giwa & Nasarawa United in Abuja

Giwa FC will finally replay Nasarawa United in a rescheduled Week 35 billed for Friday, November 14, 2014 in Abuja.

According to a statement from the League Management Company, the NFF ruled that the game be replayed on Friday morning at the Fifa Goal Project pitch after its appeals committee's meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.

Nasarawa United had earlier twice showed up for the deferred match in Abuja, but Giwa FC failed to show up.

The body has also approved the LMC's fine of one million naira slammed against Giwa FC due to its shortcomings over the disputed game, which had LMC taking burden of financial stress of Nasarawa over the boycotted dates

"Appeals Committee finds that LMC acted in fairness, good sportsmanship and in the overall interest of the League when it ordered replay," LMC statement reads.

"Appeals Committee affirms LMC's sanction of N1m Naira on Giwa FC for lack of diligence during period of botched fixture for match day 35.

"LMC to bear Nasarawa United's cost during failed dates with Giwa FC.”

Though Kano Pillars have already been crowned champions for the 2013/14 Glo Nigeria Premier League, the season is nonetheless set for a titanic finish as teams make a last push for survival as well as to secure precious continental tickets for the next season.

Headlining the final day contests will be the game in Lafia where Nasarawa United and Wari Wolves will be slugging it out for a possible berth to compete in next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.

Wolves enjoy a two-point gap (60) over their hosts going into Sunday’s clash but they will be overtaken if Nasarawa United get the home win many predict them to get.

Interestingly, Wolves may even sneak into second place to snatch a Champions League ticket if they secure a rare win in Lafia and Enyimba fail to beat Champions Pillars in Aba.

While it is a hot chase in the upper terrace of the table, it is not yet done and dusted in the bottom half of the log where a number of teams are still at risk of going down and thus need final day wins to be sure they are keeping their Premier League status.

One of such teams desperate for a final day win is Gombe United who are on 47 points and will be playing hosts to Abia Warriors who also have a chance of sneaking in for a place in the continent next season.

For Coach Augustine Equaveon’s Gombe United, victory over Abia Warriors alone may not be adequate for their survival as they would hope results in other centers particulary those involving relegation threatened sides like them go their way.

Meanwhile, attention will also be in Aba where Pillars are boasting they want to finish on a high while their hosts, Enyimba are also saying they want to prove a point by beating the champions on the final day of the League.

Final Day Fixtures

HEARTLAND FC VS BAYELSA UNITED FC

CROWN FC VS AKWA UNITED FC

SHARKS FC VS FC TARABA

GOMBE UNITED FC VS ABIA WARRIORS FC

NASARAWA UNITED FC VS WARRI WOLVES FC

KADUNA UNITED FC VS RANGERS INT’L FC

EL-KANEMI WARRIORS FC VS SUNSHINE STARS FC

Re: Kano Pillars Wins Nigeria League (NPFL) For The Third Successive Time. by robosky02(m): 9:49am On Nov 17, 2014
high lite of all the games:

Heartland 1-2 Bayelsa United

Bayelsa United need a win of any kind to stay in the elite division and that they achieved through Oghogho Oduokpe's second half brace after Emeka Ogbugh had put Heartland ahead in the first half. Bayelsa United finish in 15th place and a point above the drop zone.

Crown FC 3-0 Akwa United

Relegated Crown FC gave their fans something to cheer when they overran Akwa United in Ibadan. Onyekachi Okafor helped himself with a brace while of the Daniel brothers at the club, Bode, also scored to put gloss on the result. Akwa United had no worries as they had already been guaranteed of their top flight status.

Sharks 0-1 FC Taraba

FC Taraba pulled off the surprise result of the final day with a 1-0 win at Sharks. Mohammed Abdulmalik scored in the 28th minute for FC Taraba and they fended off Sharks since then, and also rode on ladyluck to leave the Garden City with a point that ensured they finished in 12th position, one spot above Sharks.

Gombe United 4-1 Abia Warriors

The Savannah Scorpions are relegated for the first time from the top flight in 21 years despite defeating Abia Warriors 4-1. Austin Ekpoma and Azuka Ebinum scored a brace each while Ndifreke Effiong managed a consolation goal for Abia Warriors. But the win proved too little, too late as Gombe United finish in 17th position.

Nasarawa United 2-2 Warri Wolves

Wolves got off the blocks faster in this match as they showed they wanted the ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup more than Nasarawa United. Joseph Osadiaye gave them a 2-0 lead at the break, but two penalties converted by Andrew Igado saved Nasarawa United the blushes, but it was Wolves that claimed third spot to win a continental spot.

Kaduna United 1-2 Rangers

Peter Onoja gave relegated Kaduna United a three minutes lead. But 21 minutes later, Onoriode Odah equalised and then in the 64th minute scored the winning goal of the match as Rangers finished in eighth position with 58 points while Kaduna United ended up in 19th.

El-Kanemi Warriors 3-0 Sunshine Stars

El-Kanemi also secured for themselves top flight football on the final day of the season with a three-goal win. The Maiduguri-based were never under any threat from Sunshine Stars during the match as Ifeanyi Matthew gave them the lead in the seventh minute. Sunday Adetunji scored twice in the second half to make it 3-0.

Nembe City 0-4 Giwa FC

A second half blitz by Giwa FC in Omoku produced four goals from Gyang Amos, Shuaibu Ibrahim, Ocheme Edoh and Abdulbasit Shittu which condemned Nembe City to their 22nd loss of the campaign. Giwa FC finished the second in fourth place with 60 points.

Lobi Stars 1-0 Dolphins

Lobi Stars as usual left it very late in the game. Defender Samson Gbadebo scored a late winner inside added time as Dolphins finished the league campaign with a loss and will now turn to the Federation Cup final for a trophy this season.

Enyimba 3-1 Kano Pillars

It was an explosive game in Aba as Enyimba ran the champions ragged in the first 45 minutes that produced three goals. Mfon Udoh scored twice for Enyimba and Gambo Mohammed halved the lead of the People's Elephant in added time before the break. Chimezie Amanfor came off the bench to score Enyimba's third before Chinonso Okonkwo was sent off for a second bookable offence as the Aba-based club finished the match with 10 men.
