Ajoint operation of the military and Mobile Police units known as ‘Operation Guerilla’, has been launched to recapture Vimtim, the hometown of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, and Mubi town from Boko Haram insurgents.

Checks revealed that police authorities yesterday, ordered the Mobile Police special unit to join Nigerian Army personnel at Marraba Mubi, about 18 kilometres from Mubi.

Although efforts made to confirm the new development from the 23rd Armoured Brigade in Yola and the Adamawa State Police Command failed, impeccable sources told Daily Sun that the joint force was making frantic efforts to invade the insurgents’ hideouts and dislodge them.

A source close to the police, however, said Mobile Policemen deployed to Mubi had received signals that their colleagues in the joint operation had reached Marraba Mubi.

Some residents of Marraba Mubi, who escaped the onslaught of the insurgents and were taking refuge in Yola, said they saw a detachment of Mobile Policemen on the roads leading to Mubi and Michika Local Government Areas .

“There is presence of stern-looking and heavily armed Mobile Policemen making frantic efforts to launch into the roads leading to Vimtim, Mubi and Michika towns, which are now under the control of Boko Haram insurgents,” one of them said.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports stated that most of the primary and secondary schools in Yola, the state capital, had been shut down indefinitely to avoid attacks by the insurgents.

Fear and apprehension heightened in the state following an attack on Ashaka Cement, where the insurgents allegedly carted away dynamites and explosive devices.
