It is a highly held opinion that the 'staggering of elections' in Nigeria will produce a better result and also the safety of lives and properties is assured to a very large extent.
The 'staggering' entails the conduct of elections in say five or six states (in the case of state elections) at a time, then collate and present the results. After the conduct of the entire elections in bits, the whole result is combined and the overall winner known.
This is analogous to the analysis of an entire structure in structural engineering,by a method known as the 'finite element' method. In this kind of method you 'divide' or 'discritize' the entire structure into finite or smaller elements, analyse them separately for the desired results then 'combine' or 'globalize' these results at certain points or 'nodes' to obtain the desired results for the entire structure. It usually gives the best result when compared to the other methods of analysis.
If INEC can take a cue from this, elections in Nigeria will be more credible, safer and less expensive.
What is your take?
