How To End Boko Haram Terror. A Must Read. by femdelak(m): 3:03pm On Nov 17, 2014
Hello my naija people. I just read this essay by a Nigerian living in America on "How To End The Boko Haram Terror".
I enjoyed every bit of it and learnt a lot. You all need to read it and share to other pages. Our politicians need to read it.
Those politicians who are busy chasing after their own selfish interests need to read it because a lot of them don't even know the things that
the guy wrote about, yet they are desperate and chasing power by all means.

Okay, here is the first part of the essay:

A Different Kind of War

In the last couple of years, a weak enemy (Boko Haram) has buried fear in the heart of the powerful federal government of Nigeria. I have seen some online commenters characterizing Boko Haram as a strong organization, I completely disagree with such a characterization. Boko Haram, like ISIS in Iraq and Al-Qaeda, is a terribly weak radical organization. But that element of weakness can be lost when terrorist organizations carry out a massive attack in the public arena.

Without going into too much history, the kind of war that Boko Haram wages is different from the kind of war that most sovereign militaries train for, hence, most countries are not prepared when asymmetrical warfare besieges them. Our understanding of warfare, from a scholarly point of view, is an open conflict where both sides view each other’s strengths and weaknesses based on the effectiveness of their army, navy and air force. It was the modus operandi in World Wars I and II, and for the most part of the Cold War Era. To explain in a clear term, it will be insane to believe that Nigeria will defeat the United States of America in a conventional warfare. It will be insane to believe that Ghana will defeat Britain in a conventional warfare.

As it became evident that it would be impossible to defeat superior military powers through a conventional warfare, non-state actors embraced a new kind of warfare, “Hit-and-Run,” you can now surreptitiously attack your superior enemy, and withdraw into an invisible underground fortress. So it’s why counterterrorist analysts defined terrorism as “the weapon of the weak against the strong.” Terrorism, quite honestly, can’t be defeated but it can be decimated, but a coherent strategy is needed to accomplish this herculean task.

Nigeria is not the first country to face this kind of existential threat, in fact, great powers dealt with such problems in the past. It will surprise so many people that the United States of America didn’t lose a single battle in Vietnam, but it lost the war, likewise the Soviet Union, at the height of its dominance, was kicked out of Afghanistan by the Taliban after 10 years of a devastating military adventure. These two countries returned back to their countries, but Nigeria is fighting an existential threat within its own border, which makes it a serious existential threat to her survival. There is no option for Nigeria than to decimate Boko Haram. Boko Haram is not a north-eastern problem, it’s a Nigeria’s problem. In this essay, I shall discuss strategies and implementations vis-à-vis the decimation of Boko Haram.

Honestly, you have to read the rest of it. You will be humbled by the knowledge of that guy.
