Ibadan APC Rally Killing, PDP, AP Call For Investigation. by Bekwarra(m): 4:10pm On Nov 23, 2014
The Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party has
condemned the killing of a policeman by suspected
political thugs who invaded the rally of All
Progressives Congress at Oke Ado area of Ibadan on
Friday.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the
Oyo State Collectives, a group within PDP, Adekunle
Femi, said, “Without being told, the claim by the APC-
led government to have achieved peace is a mere
propaganda to deceive the people of state that they
have done something special. The recent clashes
among the rival group in All progressives Congress
and attacks on innocent people by thugs loyal to the
party in Oyo has further established the claims that
the party is spreading propaganda in its desperate
bid to retain power.
“We urge the security agencies in the state to be
more firm and conscious of activities around them
especially while in the midst of party loyalists during
rallies and campaign,” the statement said in part.
Reacting to the report linking him with the bloody
violence, Caretaker Chairman of Ibadan South-West
Local Government, Taoreed Adeleke, said the
hoodlums who unleashed terror during the rally
were impersonators and not APC members. Adeleke
spoke through the council’s Head of Information Unit,
Segun Adeyemo.
He said, “The people of Oke Ado have been enjoying
peace for the past three and half years, how can the
government touting peace and security of life as one
of its achievements orchestrate violence against its
much cherished people?”
In its reaction to the mayhem, Accord Party in the
state called for thorough investigation of the attack,
while also expressing security concern ahead of 2015
elections in the state.
In a statement signed by the party’s spokesman,
Dotun Oyelade, AP said, “The unprovoked killing of
policemen and random shooting to intimidate by
hired thugs barely 12 weeks before the next election
is a danger sign that must be stopped.”
Meanwhile, at least one person was on Saturday
reported killed at Aruogba community clash in Oredo
Local Government Area of Edo State, over the
leadership of the community.
It was gathered that trouble started when one of the
factional leaders in the community, was said to have
recruited thugs from neighbouring communities to
unleash mayhem on the community.
A source told our correspondent under condition of
anonymity that there was heavy shooting during the
fracas which left five houses and several cars
completely razed by the warring factions, while many
of the residents scampered for safety.
Shop in the area were also said to have shut down
while many youths in the community fled the scene
to avoid police arrest.
Efforts to reach the Edo State Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Noble Uwoh, proved abortive as he said
that he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
It was, however, learnt that the scene of the conflict
had been condoned off by men of the Nigeria Police.
