The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the police invasion of the National Assembly last week is the equivalent of a coup as it congratulated members who jumped the fence to save Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement issued yesterday by its national publicity secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC called for an independent investigation with a view to stopping a reccurrence.

The party congratulated the members of the National Assembly, especially those who scaled the high gates of the National Assembly, for the sacrifices they have made to defend the nation’s democracy.

It said the lawmakers, by their action, risked their lives for the survival of Nigeria’s democracy, hence they are heroes.

The APC said, “The lawmakers who united across party lines last week to restore the integrity of the House of Representatives and prevent an attempt to truncate our democracy are heroes, because if they had not done what they did, no one could have imagined the consequences of the orchestrated police action against the National Assembly.

“The senators who stormed the House in sympathy and solidarity with their colleagues, including Senate President David Mark, should also be commended by all for resisting tyranny and for facing up to anti-democratic forces.’

The party said using weapons to attack an arm of government and preventing it from carrying out its functions are tantamount to a coup, adding that the tear gas that was fired into the National Assembly by an invading force of policemen is a chemical weapon.

In a country where 7 out of 26 is a majority. Tambuwal made a smart move. Can you believe after Tambuwal introduced himself to the cop at the gate, the dummy cop, kept quiet and couldn't even utter a word of explanation on why he is not allowed into the premise. Thank God Tambuwal did not go back home that moment. He came to work and He did the work He came for, else!!!!

Nonsense excuse. any state which a few people impeach the speaker against the majority in the house, the people of the state should rise up protest, in fact they should shut the state until things return to normal. If the police refused to allow the reps to enter into the Chambers, I expected them to go to court and also raise the people who they represent against the power that be. If they have done that then we will begin to have hope for democracy.
