Elections Should Be Postponed by tbaba1234: 10:37pm On Nov 28, 2014
Given the volatile security situation, i am of the position that elections should be postponed till we can reduce the capacity of insurgents to carry out attacks in City centers.

I think we are putting lives in danger by going into elections at this time.

Yet but elections at this period of high tension is not healthy. In 2011, we saw the violence that transpired. It can happen again.

Interim National Government at the center. That is what some 'big' men are planning. Obj likely to be the anchor man.

So you want the Otuoke drunken master to remain in office beyond May next year? That will never happen.

No, an interim government can be formed with a six month mandate or something.

wont you have to do elections after?

are you sure insecurity in the country is about the oncoming elections?
why?
is it because of the power at the center?
maybe kanuri people do not want an ijaw man make decisions that affect their daily lives?
then reduce the power at the center.
that way the fulani man can do whatever he likes at his corner of the desert
and can only cast sideways glance at, to him, the foolishness of the jukun man in taraba who does not really affect the fulani livelihood.

Boko Haram is beyond local politics, at the moment.

What election? It will be the beginning of the end of Nigeria that will determine the thieves that are really born to rule.

It will eventually boil down to the question of what the whole ball game is all about and who has much to lose or defend.

Nigerians never learn

Short term solutions is why we are where we are

What is interim government and based on what constitution

Forget all that nonsense

Postponing election because of terror is simply playing into the hands of terrorist

The election will go on, Jonathan will be re-elected, political Boko haram will be defeated at the polls and then the re-elected Jonathan government will now finish the fight against fundamentalist Boko haram!

Problem is, there is no political boko haram. BH is beyond local politics. It is a sad reality that political parties still point accusing fingers and face the problem.

Recently ISIS hinted that BH had pledged allegiance to them. That is beyond local politics.

BH is not PDP or APC. It is an ideological cult that kill everyone that disagrees with its agenda. Simple.

If Jonathan loses, there would be a return of chaos in the Niger delta because all the criminals, he empowered would lose juicy deals, Tompolo, dokubo etc.

If Buhari loses, riots in parts of the north again.

Recipe for disaster. Crowds of people voting, easy targets for insurgent.

if Nigeria gets to the point where we cant have elections or postpone elections because of terrorist then we are officially a failed state

The election must go on. Some people are hoping if Boko Haram continues they may be able to defeat Jonathan at the polls. As soon as the elections are over this wild and pipe dream will end and we will clearly face Boko Haram terrorism as a united country

my message to the Kanuris, Hausas and Fulanis is that while they held sway at the center for so long under military and democratic governments. The other tribes and regions did not set the country on fire. Those who do not like Jonathan need to stop blowing up the country or supporting violence but rather try to defeat Jonathan at the polls!

You are still missing the point.

Boko Haram is NOT about Jonathan or his ambition. They will do the sam even if a kanuri man is in power.

Your thought process contributes to the problem.

I don't think it will turn out well if election are nnt held. Maybe a change of power can offer something good in the war against BH.
And if Jonah still wins, then we are in for another 4 years of agony

Postponing the elections will fulfil the desire of a few and harm the expectations of most Nigerians. But for me , it is no-win situation considering the current politico-social-economic situation in the country.

he level of ignorance been displayed here makes me laugh!!! There is nohing like ING in the 1999 constitution. The constitution is very clear that in event of any war which makes elections impossible,The president tenure would continue until such a time when elections are possible!!! Obasanjo has done his part,he is never cming close to that seat again.
