Former Head of State, and a leading aspirant of the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) has condemned moves by President Goodluck Jonathan to borrow $1 billion for the prosecution of the war against insurgents in the troubled North-east.

According to the former head of a military junta, “for 30 months, we fought civil war from here to the East, and Nigeria never borrow a dime and don’t forget that Nigeria won the war that continue to keep us as a single entity.”

Buhari, who made his position known in Kano shortly after he commiserated with victims of last Friday’s multiple attack at Kano central mosque, argued that there was “no basis or cogent reason as to why Nigeria must borrow money to fight the Insurgency.”

He maintained that what the nation got as revenue when there was stability in the global oil market was enough to purchase military hardware that would help in curtailing the security challenges.

The presidential aspirant held that lack of political will on the part of the sitting government; high level corruption; looting of national treasury number among the factors working against the war on terror.

Hear the retired General, “my worry and concern is that from 1999 to date Nigeria has gotten huge foreign earnings in Dollars and yet no one can say where are these money, Nigeria before now was having its National carrier, with hundreds of shipping Cargos, but today we are practically zero and no one can tell what happened, and now somebody want to put the nation in another trouble by borrowing, the move is totally unacceptable to us.”
