Nigerians dont understand that saying good morning every morning is like saying happy new year everyday in january, you'd see a white man rarely says good morning unless there is something actually good about the morning, he would just say "sir" or "mr........." to show regard if necessary, unlike our own case where you see your oga in the morning and you will just utter "goodmorning sir" abruptly then he would say "how are you" and you'd answer "fine" like its a medical checkup. When an oyinbo says "how are you" its more like a rethoric question which he use to express warmness and delight to see you, its not a medical question where you answer fine or not.
Thats what happens when you decide
to copy and paste other people's culture thinking it makes you elite, and you dont know youre just being a zombie.

Na wah oo. Must everything here be done the way it's done there, wherever it is you're from? We're Africans, naturally warm and good people. Saying 'good morning' doesn't necessarily mean something extra good must have happened. It's also another way of wishing the next person a pleasant day, just like you said about saying happy new year.

the problem here is when you keep trying to do something like the oyinboman and you fail woefully at it. did you read this part of the article?

I see nothing bad/wrong in wishing someone good morning at every start of a new day

It has become a culture. Even if we got it from the oyinbos, there is no binding rule that we must do it exactly like they do.

Where I have a problem with greetings is if someone picks offense just because another person forgets (somehow) to say 'good morning' or 'good afternoon'.
The person may be having a rough day with a lot of things running through his mind which makes him oblivious of his surroundings. But most times people read meaning into it and pick offense.

What is good about mourning? Morning and mourning is the same sound and pitch, yet in African language the pitch changes for the same word, it gives you an entirely different meaning. European practice more evil magic and cursing than any other people on Earth, their languages have alot of evil magic words. How about good day instead?
