There is need to investigate the death of Nambol Audu, a police officer
More Nigerians have been committing suicide in the last few years than in previous times, so claimed a recent survey on what is now a serious global problem. With an average of one of such cases in every 40 seconds, suicide is topping the chart as the number one killer in the world. Unfortunately, several of our compatriots are catching up with the trend that is attributable mainly to depression among other causes. However, while suicide is becoming another major problem that we have to deal with, there is something odd and suspicious about the recent death of Nambol Audu, a deputy superintendent of police and chief armourer of the Kaduna Police Command.
According to media reports, Audu was arrested recently along with one Zingkur Joseph of Trade Centre Jos and Samuel Adamu of Kuru Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State for allegedly stealing firearms which they attempted to sell to some criminals. The trio allegedly drove into the police armoury at night where they loaded the weapons into a private vehicle. But suspecting foul play, the security men on duty stopped the vehicle from leaving the premises. On interrogation, Audu reportedly could not give satisfactory account of his action and was immediately hauled into custody. The story turned ugly four days later when, while still in detention, Audu was reported to have shot himself in the chest. The State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu, would later disclose that preliminary investigation revealed that Audu killed himself.
While we do not dispute the CP’s claim, pertinent questions remain about why the chief armourer would choose to kill himself and the manner in which he reportedly did it. Even when we concede that there is a sense of burden strong enough for some people to take their own lives, especially considering the circumstances under which Audu was caught, the question that begs for answer is: how did the man who was in protective police custody get a gun? Also worrying is the manner of the self-inflicted death. He reportedly shot himself in the chest twice!
The tragic incident has left an obvious room for conjectures as to what really happened because most people who commit suicide through gun shots do so straight to the head and not the chest. The questions being asked, therefore are: was Audu killed because he knew too much? Would the money, if the sales were successful, flow to some powerful people at the top? Or did Audu imagine a future that is bleak, shorn of meaning, as to have taken his own life? Indeed, the suspicion in police circles is that a pistol was smuggled into the cell with which the police officer allegedly shot and killed himself. If that was the case, what was the motive of whoever did the deceased such “favour”?
For too long, many criminal activities have been compounded by quiet eliminations of some of the major actors while they are in custody. And given that our country is gradually being turned into a huge burial ground because of crimes - armed robbery, kidnapping and of course the bloody Boko Haram insurgency--deaths like that of Audu often easily slide off the front pages. That is the very reason we demand an inquiry into the death of the chief armourer. The first responsibility to do something urgent lies with the police. If the man deliberately killed himself or was murdered by people who have something to hide, the public deserves to know.
We therefore suggest that Audu should not be buried with the preliminary findings as there is need to properly ascertain the cause of his death, which to many Nigerians, appears suspicious, if not convenient

Hmm...there's something fishy about his death.how did he come about the gun and most people who commit suicide with gun always aim for the head cos that is a sure kill.
Shooting himself twice in the heart is kind of strange.how can a dead person shoot himself again.his death need to be investigated

The simple explanation is that the external hidden forces(Politicians, religious leader, Armed Robbers) responsible for the gun running are highly place and they paid His fellow officer to shut him off.

Remember all these gun runner always have more than one person they are doing business with in case issues like this come up, their partner keep eye on one another.

A dying Man will not have the strength to shoot himself twice, He knows too much and they know that He has been burnt, He was a liability to them hence the execution.

How did he get a gun in the cell? Who gave him the gun? Has any investigation been carried out to that effect? How can someone on suicide mission pulled the trigger on his chest when the Head is the permanent site for suicide prospects? How can a man on suicide mission shoot and re-shoot himself? What are they trying to cover in force headquarters? Jonathan and Mr. Abba should investigate the command and the death of Chief Armourer /bloody fool Audu

NPF should keep decieving themselves. This country has turned to a BURIAL GROUND. Nothing will be heard of this news again.
Gun running is a Mafia click, his own tenure has passed, another Fool has continued after him.
Welcome to Nigeria.

They have killed him.

My only grouse is that they cannot ever come up with good cover up stories. Its always some crappy tale that a 2 yr old won't believe.

How dies a person shoot himself twice I. The chest.the assassin who planned suicide as a coverup must be daft.
