A presidential aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, APC,
Atiku Abubakar, has said President Goodluck Jonathan’s
poor leadership was due to a lack of experience.
He said Mr. Jonathan was not qualified to lead Nigeria as a
president.
The former vice president was addressing delegates of the
APC primaries in Jos on Tuesday at his residence.
He said Mr. Jonathan was forced into office and did not
willingly contest the 2011 elections.
Mr. Abubakar said Mr. Jonathan had fallen short of ideas
to govern Nigeria, considering the current security
situation.
“Today, we are suffering all forms of issues as a country,
because we have someone on board, who was not qualified
to vie for the presidency, that is why he is doing what he
is doing, because he did not seek for the position he is
occupying,” Mr. Abubakar said.
He said he was contesting the forthcoming elections to
correct the wrongs in Nigeria.
“Of all those contesting the 2015 presidential election in
Nigeria, I am the most qualified,” he said. “I served Nigeria
eight years as vice president in a democratic government;
who among them has done such, and I am the most
suitable. But I am not desperate. If I was desperate I
should have supported (Olusegun) Obasanjo’s third time
plan, but I rejected the idea, that was why the third term
ambition could not succeed. If I did, all those in
government today, where would they have been?
“Apart from this, I am one of those who fought tooth and
nail for the return of democratic governance in Nigeria.
Some persons lost their lives in the process. I rejected
working in the military era. They offered me various
appointments, but I turned them down.”
Mr. Abubakar appealed to APC members nationwide to
support any APC candidate that would clinch the ticket of
the party’s presidential flag bearer to contest with the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Speaking on governance in Plateau state, the APC
presidential aspirant called on the Plateau electorate to
change the fortune of the state by voting out PDP.
The event was brief as the APC Presidential aspirant
revealed he was rushing to Abuja to be screened on
Tuesday.
