France has been ordered to pay thousands of Euros in compensation to a group of Somali pirates who attacked French ships -- because they were not brought before a judge quickly enough after their capture. The European Court of Human Rights said the nine pirates should have been presented to a judge as soon as they landed in France after being held at sea. They were detained by the French Navy in 2008 after attacking a French yacht and a cruise ship off the coast of Somalia.
