Mum, baby had concussion, so that should be expected. Good thing is if not severe, babies have a relatively pliable skull because skull sutures/joints are not completely fused yet, unlike an adult with a rigid skull. BUT go to A & E sharp sharp. Because baby can't tell you if he's feeling drowsy, confused or has weakness in limbs and such symptoms. But watch his movement and co-ordination, demeanour closely. Check for any fluid/blood leaking from nose/ear and check for bloodshot/red eyes. See a doc soonest. Keep calm. 1 Like |

Your baby most likely had a seizure following d fall. It may or may not hav any sequel.Get her examined by a doctor and run tests if required. |

All the things u described typifies convulsion in babies. It must have resulted from the fall. pls, take him to a paediatrician. Cheers. 1 Like |

God know say if na me, e go reach 5 days before I remember say nairaland dey exist. Babies are way too precious. 1 Like |

from your brief history, it is likely that due to the fall, there was collectiön of bløod in the brain causing irritation leading to what you discribed like a convulsion episode. Please see a qualified paediatrician. I suggest you visit a teaching hospital. God be with you all. 1 Like |

My younger brother does that everytime even till he was 5 years old. Not new to me. But we do sprinkle water on him when he does that. Cry-->faint---->wake up---> resume crying. |

This op is a strong woman! When my baby fell off the bed(a really low one), I almost collapsed because the baby didn't cry, he just continued playing. Even when my husband(a resident gynaecologist) examined him and said all was well, I didn't relax till I saw a specialist who certified him well. My annointing oil almost finished that day. 2 Likes |

@op, I trust you must have taken your baby to the hospital? please when you are back and settled, do let us know how your baby is doing so we can rest easy. Its quite worrisome for parents in the house to keep wondering how the baby fared. Especially for worrywarts |

Sounds like a breath holding spell. But then again, meet your PEDIATRICIAN. Let me stress that, please meet a qualified PEDIATRICIAN to see your child. Best of luck |

Re: Baby Fainted While Crying by greedie1(f): 2:46pm On Dec 06, 2014 |
from ur description it seems lyk breath holding spell. if it is, its not.life threatening and is usually outgrown by the age.of 6. u can google it. i find dat many nigerians are unaware of this. but i know a baby who had it from.as early as 8 weeks. once diagnosed, no medication is required except to put d child in a place where he or she won't come to harm by falling. its a severe form of temper tantrum and triggered by strong emotions. 1 Like |
Re: Baby Fainted While Crying by greedie1(f): 2:52pm On Dec 06, 2014 |
breath holding spell is very different from seizures, convulsion and the likes and in no way leads to these. children who experience breath holding spells should neither be punished nor rewarded, just treated indifferently coz the spell is usually involuntary. |

Re: Baby Fainted While Crying by baybiemee: 4:08pm On Dec 06, 2014 |
She is very much okay now. She actually passed out as a result of the over- stretched cry, she didn't pause in- between sobs to inhale air. Thanks y'all, I really appreciate the sensible comments. |

Since she hit her head on the floor, it s very ok to take her to the clinic for sure. But on the crying and fainting thingy, has been happening in my house for a while. My 14mths old son faints any time he cries hard, what i do, i shake him hard with his eyes rolled in and he will be very weak and not able to cry 4 some few seconds. He then starts crying after he has regained himself. I'm not surprised because it happens to me when i was much younger. It happens anytime i'm crying or even when my siblin tickles me continuously non stop lol. |

THE best advice for the lady is for her to visit a paediatric neurologist. It could have been a seizure, intracranial hemorrhage....... See ur D's doctor ASAP |

pls dont hesitate to take your baby to the hospital,it may have been a seizure, and at that age u won't joke with seizures from a fall, you may be asked to do a ct scan , and if there are any issues it can be tackled. falls like this can lead to repeated seizures and epilepsy later if not properly tackled early. |
