Senate President, David Mark, Saturday in Otukpo, emerged as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the fifth time in the Benue South Senatorial district primaries.
Mark scored 384 votes out of 389 to win nomination as his opponent Mike Onoja stepped down at the venue of the senatorial primaries.
Onoja told delegates just before the commencement of votes that his decision to drop his bid was premised on the cordial relationship he had enjoyed with Mark over the years. According to him, they both share the same ideology of development of Idoma land.
“I was not induced in any way to step down for the Senate President whom I holds him in very high esteem as the number three citizen of this country,” he said.
Despite his withdrawal from the race, the party insisted that delegates voted to fulfill the party’s constitution.
Mark has been a member of the Senate since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999. He however became President of the upper legislative chamber in 2007
