Looking at the APC primary election that would take place on the 10th December 2014. From what we have heard and seen, Kano state Governor, Kwankwaso is going, Imo state Governor, Okorocha is going. Former vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former military head of state, Buhari are also going. But the battle is between Atiku Abubakar and muhammedu Buhari.

In the past few weeks, Atiku has grown more stronger and better. Even though Buhari is more likeable, acceptable among major political stakeholders.

Buhari has that passion, he believes in Nigeria and would love to take it to greater heights. So many believes he’s the better opponent who can do the job well. But it seems Atiku has a wider edge over Buhari from my observations.

Here are these 3 reasons why I think Atiku will win the APC primaries.

1- Age- So many has complained about Buhari’s age. At over 70, he still wants to be the President of Nigeria. Atiku is younger and more vibrant. He still got age on his side. In as much Buhari would be more active, has a clean corruption record and transparent. Atiku may be preferred by delegates due to age.

2- Appealing to Nigerian Youths.- Atiku is smart, that was why he started his campaign by involving strong Nigerian Young Political commentators. The likes of Omojuwa, Ogunlesi. He also organized a youth forum, an interactive forum where he related with some youths. Majority of people involved in Buhari’s campaign and supporters are elder statement, far from the youths. This won’t really count well for the former military junta. 60% voters are youths and he is not carrying them along. So many things I know about Buhari are things my dad told me and what I read on the pages of newspaper and internet. That was what he has done some years ago.

Buhari is not carrying the youths along. Many youths like me love him. We want to share in the dreams he has for Nigeria. But he’s not really engaging us.

3- Money- Nigerian politics has not grown to the extent where average citizens donate money to aspirants and candidates. It is only the rich that donates. In Nigeria, the politicians give money, food items to voters for them to elect them. This is a country were politicians can easily buy our conscience with reasonable sum of money. and Atiku knows the worth, that’s why he’s using it.

In this term, Atiku is far richer. He can afford to buy delegates. Infact he is already doing it. Why do you think he said that it was too late for APC to have a consensus candidate? Before the advent of Atiku in APC, everyone had already believed that Buhari was the anointed one, not until Atiku came in. even Buhari knew this, that was why he said, “whoever was elected candidate by APC, he is ready to support.”

Many Nigerian politicians prefer Buhari to Atiku. But with the way things are going, the pendulum may swing. In the last couple of weeks, Atiku has been touring Nigerian cities, making consultations, meeting eminent men. His political campaign and supporters are growing while Buhari’s is sliding down. “It seems Buhari is feling it,” You may think.

Atiku is more relaxed now. The way he talks and the moves he makes. He believes so much in himself because he got the money. He understands the Nigerian political structure and how it works. He has been playing his game underground, buying off delegates. While Buhari is busy clamoring for support from eminent APC members. Indeed he may get it because they love him. But Atiku is busy spending his money on grass root members because they make up the majority delegates.

Remember what happened in 2010 when President Jonathan nearly lost the PDP Presidential primary election to Atiku. If not for the quick intervention of former President Obasanjo who helped Jonathan re-strategize his game plan. Atiku had offered some money to delegates. The deal was already done not until Obasanjo offered double of what Atiku had given to delegates. All for Jonathan to pick the PDP ticket. Well Jonathan finally picked it.

And that is what Atiku is not ready to play with now. Because he knows Buhari doesn’t have much money to spend on delegates. Atiku has the money and he’s spending it. Majority of the people that would vote for Atiku had already been bought by Turaki Adamawa himself. So, I won’t be surprised if Atiku picks the APC presidential ticket.

Atiku's plan for the future is very clear and well laid out. He is doing campaign the proper way, going every where to talk to delegates

if APC fail to mke Buhari there flag bearer, they should forget it. I wnt vote anybody.

The part bolded should ordinarily make one's tummy churn....that a man who says he wants to come and serve is corrupting the nomination process and attempting to buy delegates vote

As in ehn it is surprising that same Nigerians are cheering someone that openly display corruption, no wondÉr the same people want the status quo tÓ remain. Anyway, they can only rant but Buhari will be elected(by the grace of God)

Nigerian politics is all about money and more money,that's the edge Atiku have over Buhari.

My friend shut up and read carefully what the op said before posting gibberish

He's trying to highlight the flaws of buhari and you talking trash, do you expect the delegates to travel to daura to woo him because he wants to fight kworupshion or he should go consulting and meeting with delegates.

Atiku has done more work than buhari, he's traveled to so many state while buhari remain in daura chewing gworo and waiting for consensus because he has 12 million almajiris.

Can you compare the effort atiku has put and still putting into this apc convention with buhari? Till now I'm still reading aitku booking flight and hotels for delegate while your buhari prolly be in daura believing on tinubu to do the magic or delegates to vote him because he is Nnamdi azikiwe, and want automatic ticket. Even when atiku started with his media chat ( first to be done by any politician ) your kworupshion fighting general was borrowing loan on the media to garner sympathy.
