My favorite saints are St Theresa of the Child Jesus, St Rita of Cascia, St Anthony of Padua. All my life, my Mum always reminds on us to call on St Anthony of Padua when looking for lost items, but one incident that would stay in my memory forever was this particular time when my sister lost an unscratched N1,500 recharge card. This happened in the early era when GSM lines were newly rolled out and very few people had the lines then, so in my house, it was only my parents that had GSM lines. Momsie sent my sister to buy MTN recharge(that was only when N1,500 recharge cards were the only denomination available). My sister had to walk quite a distance to get this and by the time she got home she couldn't find it in her jeans pocket. Momsie was so mad and after raking about her carelessness, advised her to pray to St Anthony to intercede and find it for her. My sista prayed about it and we all went to bed. The following morning, my brother went out to clean Popsie's car as usual and just decided to check the mailbox in front of the house. U guys won't believe this, but there was an MTN N1,500 unscratched recharge card in it. . This was strange, cos we hardly check the mailbox in front of the house for any mails since Momsie insists we route all our mails through the family P.O.Box for security reasons. Why my broda decidd to check the mailbox that morning, we would never know. Till date we still wonder about it, but we just knew it was God thru the intercession of St Anthony of Padua. |

What makes a person a Saint? |
Re: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by SeaGoddes(f): 3:23am On Dec 22, 2008 |
Cayon: The Catholic Church has been formally recognizing saints since the second century. At that time, individuals became saints based more on popular demand than any sort of formal process. Because of this, the list of saints grew quickly. Reforms instituted at Vatican II pared down the list of saints celebrated worldwide in the liturgy. The “saint-making” process, overseen by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, has also been revised. There are three steps necessary for a person to become a saint. First, the person must be named Venerable, which means he or she exhibited heroic virtues in life. Before moving on to beatification, the person must have a miracle attributed to him or her. Once such a miracle is confirmed, the person is known as Blessed. For the final step before canonization, the individual must have yet another miracle attributed to his or her intercession—unless he or she was a martyr for the faith. Only then is a person canonized and added to the list of saints. Often people will say Catholics worship saints. Actually, it’s more of a “looking up to” them as examples of how we should live. Paintings or statues of these saints serve as visual reminders for us to emulate the saints in our own lives. We pray to saints for their intercession, which is like asking a friend of God to ask God for a favor. |

Catholism the mother of christianity, St Michael == Ogun laka, Ogun Awo, Ogun Onire (Oni ile Kangun kangun orun) Then the christian liars told us Jesus said "In my father's house there are many rooms" guess where they got that from. they got that from the Yoruba's and today they preetend their false Jesus (a myth) said it. We taught them everything they know. Now these Christians, pretend or behaviour as if these fabricated stories are theirs. Checks!!! They copied everything from the negroid, Catholic, Cat-holistic, they got this name from the Sphinx of Tamare (falsely called Egypt or Africa today). holistic cat then they give you Catholic from Cat holistic or holistic Cat which is no other than the Sphinx. You follow. |

St. Innocent (Pope Innocent I) an early defender of papal authority and my confirmation namesake. I think Innocent was once a popular name among Igbo Catholics. |

~Lady~:@~Lady~ Ok , I am a Jesuit myself. And considering the amount of work I and my brothers are doing all over the world, I do not think that any of us has forgotten God. Just that Jesuits try to find God in ALL things. Jesuits have been the backbone of the Vatican and the Church at large for centuries now. It might interest you to know that 35 craters on the moon are named after Jesuits. Furthermore, Jesuits have been known to be mystics and originals. St. Francis Xavier, Fr. Matteo Ricci SJ, Fr. Roberto de Nobili SJ had the issue of INCULTURATION in mind long long long before Vatican II mentioned it. Jesuits have been engaged in FRONTIER ministries for centuries now- dialogue with Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists, scientists, the poorest of the poor, etc etc. Jesuits tend to be ahead of their times. That is why they are so much misunderstood. I have pasted a 1973 article from TIME magazine about the Jesuits. Hope you enjoy reading it,

@~Lady~ Yay, you made it. Ok my point isn't that they haven't done anything, my point is that the society is diminishing, quite a lot of them have become proud of their works. Humility is going out the door, and you may have just shown everyone that. |
Re: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by Nobody: 10:24am On Jan 01, 2009 |
~Lady~:Well, with 20,000+ members, it is still the largest (male) religious order in the Church, ~Lady~:For some reason, many people think Jesuits are proud. I myself have faced a lot of cold treatment whenever I introduce myself as a Jesuit. I notice it takes a lot of interaction for their first impression of me to go away. ~Lady~:I linked you up with that article just to show you a tip of the iceberg - by the way that article was written 36 years ago, in the turmoil created by Vatican II. The Society of Jesus is a Sign of Contradiction and has faced a lot of crises [including a suppression in many parts of Europe]. When people come very close to Christ, they begin to face the palaver that Christ Himself also faced. Such is the life, "the disciple is not greater than his Master" Compliments, my sister. Remember to pray for me. |

It is hard to say that a particular Saint is ones favourite but if I am to pick a Saint, I will choose Saint Paul. |
Re: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by Lady2(f): 7:30pm On Jan 02, 2009 |
Well, with 20,000+ members, it is still the largest (male) religious order in the Church, It's nice being the largest male religious order in the Church, but is it growing. Are men attracted to the order, that largest thing might diminish in a minute. I want it to grow. I Trust me I am not trying to say that Jesuits are bad, I just don't like what I see some of them doing, at least here in the U.S. they're not exactly growing as they used to. But I pray that they do. Q: Do you wear your religious garb? For some reason, many people think Jesuits are proud. I myself have faced a lot of cold treatment whenever I introduce myself as a Jesuit. I notice it takes a lot of interaction for their first impression of me to go away. I'm glad you know that it's not just me. But pray please, because some Jesuits are shining a bad light on the order. I love the order, I think it is one of the best orders we have had in history (I absolutely love the carmelites though). I admire St. Ignatius of Loyola and love his examen of conscience it helps me a lot. I love that the Jesuits fought hard for the restoration of the Church in England. But that respect that we all had for the Jesuits is going out the window. I linked you up with that article just to show you a tip of the iceberg - by the way that article was written 36 years ago, in the turmoil created by Vatican II. The Society of Jesus is a Sign of Contradiction and has faced a lot of crises [including a suppression in many parts of Europe]. When people come very close to Christ, they begin to face the palaver that Christ Himself also faced. Such is the life, "the disciple is not greater than his Master" OK. Compliments, my sister. Remember to pray for me. Absolutely, always and forever . Pray for me too. Jesus Loves you, Mary Loves you, I love you. |

St Augustine. He reconciled Plato and Theology, and did it amazingly well. He's African, of which I'm terribly proud. He's an amazing Christian. I'm not Catholic, but I can have a fav Saint. He is it, by far. |
Re: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by Nobody: 4:20pm On Jan 03, 2009 |
~Lady~:Very true. These are signs of the times. We need to find out what God is trying to say to us through these events. ~Lady~: The Jesuit Constitutions indicate that there is to be no specific habit for the Jesuits: they are to wear the garb of other priests and brothers in the region they are operating. ~Lady~:True. Like I said, because many are in frontier ministries, they are easily drawn into one controversy or the other. As a matter of fact, many are understood long after they are dead. For instance, Vatican II's decree on Religious Freedom (further separating the Church from the State) was inspired by the controversial (and popular) Fr. John Courtney Murray, S.J. If not for that document, the Church would have been found guilty of many atrocities committed by the state - further depleting the reputation of the Church! ~Lady~:Thanks for the complements. ~Lady~:Let me tell you a little 'secret'. Jesuits are much more involved in INCULTURATION now especially in Africa and Asia. Instead of imposing European philosophies and viewpoints on Africans and Asians, Jesuits are now trying to find out what God could have been saying to these people through their customs and way of life. The outcome of this has been very very interesting. The rest of the Church will be very surprised at some of the results!! Especially in Africa!!! ~Lady~:Yes ooo. I will, ~Lady~:Thanks. May God bless you with both His Hands. |

The Jesuit Constitutions indicate that there is to be no specific habit for the Jesuits: they are to wear the garb of other priests and brothers in the region they are operating. Ok so do you wear the garb of the region then? I am asking this because here in the U.S. priests and religious are not wearing their garb and habits. Can you believe some nuns don't wear their habits? How is one supposed to recognise a priest or a religious? They're not supposed to blend in the crowd, they're supposed to stand out. How can one learn more about the faith if we don't live it or show it outwardly. Let me tell you a little 'secret'. Especially in Africa!!! oo I can't wait for it. Always stay in prayer, there is no prayer beneath you. |

i do not have a favourite saint because each saint has a particular intention which they can help you with, so its best to say that all the saints are well favoured to me, it just depends on my current need and the context in which the saint is known for. like saint jude thaddeus is said to be the patron for hopeless cases, saint josemaria escriva is the saint that helps one to live a daily life of sanctification and so on |

None of the Saints is my favourite! I AM A CATHOLIC BUT I PRAY TO JESUS CHRIST not via any saint! @ SEA-GODDES, How can you be talking about saints in heaven while your user name glorifies the evil spirit under the water? It's a pity and I will never take you serious. Is your true favourite saint, the mammy water? |
Re: For Catholics: Who Is Your Favorite Saint? by londonbwoi(m): 7:06pm On Jan 20, 2009 |
i dont understand why people pray to saints who are just human beings in heaven. where in the bible did it tell us to pray to pray to a saint. Did Jesus Christ ever pray to any saint, no he only prayed to God not Elijah or Abraham. And why pray to someone else when we can speak directly to God. When i loose something i just simple say Holy Spirit please help me in Jesus name |
