I usually just come to this section of the forum to browse and read and maybe have a good laugh or two, but I'll make an exception today.

My dear, who do you hope to marry, the guy or "societal perception"? The most important thing (in my opinion anyway) is that the man loves you and wants you and accepts you for who you are. Society can go think whatever it wants! How many suitable suitors has it provided for you by the way?

The only problem i can foresee is that you - the woman - will most probably develop feelings of insecurity... what if he dumps me tomorrow, stuff like that. But if you can handle it - if you are confident in your own skin and honest with the young man and he's absolutely ok with it, then Society can go shove its so-called perception up where the sun don't shine.
