Imo State workers are in for a swell time this Yuletide as the State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has declared December 19, 2014 to January 5, 2015 as public holidays for civil servants in the state.

Okorocha, who announced this in his Christmas/New Year Messages and Presentation of his score card at the Government House in Owerri, assured Imo people and those visiting the state during the festive season that all necessary machineries have been set in motion to guarantee adequate security across the State.

While wishing them hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations, he requested good conduct from the people and support for the security agencies in order to fish out criminals in their localities, adding that there was every reason to celebrate.

The governor noted that the total transformation witnessed by the state in the past three years and seven months could not have been possible but for God’s intervention.
He thanked Imo people for supporting the “Rescue Mission” government.

On his scorecard, Okorocha pointed out that 322 primary and secondary schools had been built, while two campuses of Imo Polytechnic at Orlu and Ehime Mbano, were opened.

He continued that 1,800km of roads had been constructed in both urban and rural areas with many inland bridges in the state adding that contract has been awarded for the dualization of Owerri to Akokwa and Okigwe road.

Assuring that “the road revolution will continue until all roads in Imo are tarred”, the governor stated that security had greatly improved in the state following the establishment of Imo Security Network, Imo Community Watch and Imo Civil Guard.

He said the new security outfits were working in tandem with the Police, SSS and other security agencies to guarantee peace and order in the state.

He further disclosed that 25,000 youths had been employed into the Youth Must Work Programme, while others work in the Imo Young Engineers Corps (IYEC) as well as the empowerment of Ohaji/Egbema youths

The way Nigeria politicians govern as if they are running their private enterprise. What law authorized a two weeks of holiday?
How much two weeks holidays with pay will cost and business of public services suspended for two weeks and impact on the state economy?

It is all about politics; all in a bid to curry favour from some gullible electorates
