I am planning to get an suv next year and top of my list is acura mdx preferrably d 2008 model. Unfortunately, I told my mechanic about it and he said d gearbox is problematic coupled with d fact dat its very scarce. I need expert opinion before I make up my mind pls. Thanks.

It will do you a lot better if you know their systems, studied them vastly, used their car while following Manufacturers recommended procedures and be an expert in the automotive field and not following hearsay or those doomsday mechanics who can't even service a '90 honda prelude so you don't mislead people.

Bros u try no be small. Any modern car will not survive being abused, even ur dearest Toyota. When u get an 08 camry and remove the thermostat, bypass the fan, use 20w50 oil and use abro atf, do u think it would survive? The answer is NO.

I have been driving a Honda accord for 3 years and have experienced ball joint failure just once. That was because on buying it my mechanic advised I change the ball joints and he replaced the OEM ones with substandard ones. The reslut, lost a ball joint after 2 months decided to change to OEM and have never lost a ball joint for close to 3 years. I do periodic check on them and change as at when due. Every car has its own problems.

OK the MDX might be a little more fragile but not enough to say someone who admires it should stay away from it. It all books down to proper maintenance culture and using recommended parts. I see lots of accords lose ball joint but I've never seen an MDX lose one.

Just that to locate a competent mechanic is hardwork itself. Alot of mechanics out there are trained to work on cars manufactured in the 80's and 90's.

Its not what people lean from him that matters in his statement it is what he has learnt about Nigerians and how the view/use cars.

I have been using MDX since 2012, not even a plug have I changed! When you are always on time with the gearbox maintenance, guy, you don't have any problem! Acura has one of the best engine among its peers. The car is always balanced without loading it with people. As for fuel, it's not that friendly but ok. You really need to enjoy its fuel economy when on long journey. Acura is not a problematic ride. Even my friend that is using it, same no problem. Guy, go for it!
