Bees cause fresh pandemonium in Jos

Still reeling from the crisis that led to the death of hundreds in Jos, pandemonium hit the Plateau State capital on Wednesday following a surge of bees in Dilimi part of the town.



An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that a honeycomb fell from a tree in the area as a result of which those within the vicinity scampered for safety to avoid being stung.

It was learnt that while the people were running for safety, others who did not know the cause of their running suddenly joined in and were shouting.

Within minutes, there was a pandemonium in the entire city with people running helter skelter. Those who came out for the day’s business at Murtala Mohammed and Ahmadu Bello ways, including banks and other business premises, hurriedly closed shop for safety.

Nigerian Tribune saw that as result, many people sustained injuries while there were multiple accidents as drivers were trying to manoeuvre their ways to avoid being caught.

An attempt to find out what was happening from those who were running did not yield any clear answer as some of them said simply that they had to take to their heels when they saw other people running.

Security agents positioned at various parts of Jos to maintain law and other were initially confused and caught off guard as there was no signal from any part to indicate that there was crisis again in the city.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the pandemonium, which lasted for about three hours, later subsided following constant radio announcement that there was no cause for alarm and the re-assurance by security agents that there was no threat to their safety.

When the Nigerian Tribune contacted some of the soldiers to know the cause of the stampede, none of them could give any reason for it.
