Firefirea:please hear yourself out they should return to the negotiation table after how many year's of negotiation's without result. It is crystal clear that the isreali's are hell bent on continueing their occupation of palestinian lands. If the palestenian question cannot be resolved then I think the united nation's have failed in its mission of ensuring world peace freedom and equity and should be dissolved. |

Re: Nigeria Causes Palestinian Statehood To Fail At UN Security Council by limamintruth: 1:03pm On Dec 31, 2014 |
tbaba1234: Sure. Only a typical muslim like yourself will accept your baseless claim. And the answer to your silly question is an emphatic 'yes'. Out of the about 1.6million votes cast in katsina state during the last general elections, more than a million votes were cast for Buhari by mainly fellow muslims while the about 400k votes GEJ got came from the state's non-muslims. This, ignoramus, is the FACT. |

This is great betrayal from Nigeria, Africa's most powerful country, and a country that should stand solidly with all oppressed people in the world. By this act, Jonathan has betrayed African Ideals of freedom from oppression and discrimination. Shame on him. By this cowardly act, He has help make up my mind to vote against him in upcoming elections. 2 Likes |

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/31/us-israel-un-reject-palestinian-resolution-nigeria-security-council Summary is :Binyamin Natayahu and John Kerry called Jonathan to influence the change of position. The resolution was requesting that Isreal vacates occupied territory within 3 years. There would have been some incentives promised by the countries to make Jonathan change Nigeria's position. As it were, was co-operation between Nigeria and Isreal as regards arms trade, agriculture and technology despite the pro-palestine stand. This favour is more likely for the US, and I wont be surprised if they resume purchase of oil from Nigeria starting in January, Nigeria's economy is going to get worse if the current trend in the oil trade doesn't reverse soon, it will definitely not do Jonathan's re-election bid any good. On Isreal, they are not really after a 'negotiated resolution'. If they were, it shouldn't take one year to mutually agree with Palestine on a border (Negotiations have been going on for more than 15years). They stand to gain more by prolonging the occupation, as they can encroach on more land gradually over flimsy excuses like throwing stones, and make it seem that they are giving up more of what they have forcefully taken. |

History has shown that the UN security council resolutions don't bring lasting peace or end to conflicts Even if they reached a resolution based on this voting, there would still not be peace there...Isreal would find it had to take, and the Hamas terrorists won't just go away 1 Like |

Firefire: Negotiation you say, i shake my head and wonder why people can not be open-minded for once. They have being negotiating for how many years now, probably before i was born. Israel always come out with one ridiculous condition or reason not to support the outcome of the negotiation. From Camp David to Oslo accord, Israel is not sincere to any dialogue. The last Israeli government that went into genuine negotiation with the Palestinians was the government of Yitzhak Rabin, and what happened to him? He was sadly assassinated in public. Since then every Israeli government have only paid lip serve to the issue of peaceful negotiation. Personally, i will have wished the UN approved the draft resolution for statehood, and then asked Israel to withdraw to the pre-1967 borders as the draft stated. If Israel as any genuine problem with that, then they should go to the UN general assembly and raise it. There last i checked UN is a representation of all nations of the world, so they should raise it there and stop bullying the Palestinians just because they have the backings of some powerful nations of the world. Or they should all accept Palestinians as equal citizens of the country and stop infringing on their rights as human beings and treat them as equals. 3 Likes |

^^^^ It shocks and puzzles me in a very sad way that Africans, who had for centuries up till the last few decades fought and struggled to be accepted and treated as human beings, are now the least sensitive to the plight of others whose humanity has been degraded by decades of occupation and confinement in an open-air prison in their own homelands. Shame on us. 1 Like |

Naijacitizen: And how do i also know your post above is true? Abeg park well make i see road. modified: First, your tbaba stupidly claimed that muslims gave GEJ the about 400,000 votes in katsina during 2011 pres. election. Later, he changed tune that he only meant a 'significant number' of the 400k votes was from muslims. And now, you have cunningly adjusted his flawed claim by asserting that 'some' muslims in katsina did vote for GEJ at the last election. How confused can y'all get if i may ask? 2 Likes |

This is one of those actions they call diplomatic somersault. For this singular act, Jonathan has sealed his fate with every Muslim and fair minded person in Nigeria who is interested in Israeli and Palestine problem. For me, this is on par with his allowing OBJ and his Yoruba kings men to succeed in yanking Bakkasi out of Nigeria. Jonathan's re-election is gone. How on earth didn't this man know that Nigeria is 50% Muslim and this issue is very close to the heart of Muslim all over the world. Jonathan is really incompetent. He has to bring Israelis to vote for him I guess. Evil Netenyahu, killer of babies even mentioned his name as the saver of Israel today. I'm Ibo, but I will surely vote against this fool if I have the opportunity. |

36STATES:I have found reason to hate this gov't even more. If palestine is given statehood today, it will douse the tension always brewing in that region between isreal and the arabs. This people can live together in peace, but isreal wont do what could usher in that peace. Even if gej converts to islam today and, maybe he's my father, I wont forgive him for this nonsense. He can't win in the north. |

Caseless: Guy, take it easy. See the way you just typed bad, abusive words about someone you don't know, yet say you respect. You could have expressed your points without resorting to toxic words. I think Nigeria made a good decision by staying neutral. Some APC members clamor for CHANGE, but cannot accept the fact that Nigerian diplomats can also CHANGE their support if need be. Talk about Double Standards. 2 Likes |
