I'll be very brief.

My wife, kid and my very self are planning on moving apartment. In aligning our budget with comfortability, our best shot so far has been a 3bed flat along Asolo-Isawo road, Ikorodu.
Now, in as much as we love this apartment at Ikorodu, we're both seriously considering the implications it could have on our kid and jobs - my wife works on Victoria Island while I work at Ikeja. We are considering what life could be like living in Ikorodu, especially in that Asolo-Isawo area.
At the moment, we're considering making payment for the new apartment sometimes this month. But before we do that, we're seeking genuine advice and opinions from residents - past and present - of that area, and Ikorodu generally. Advice should please focus on security, power, accessibility, road networks e.t.c.

Please your advice!

I dont live in that area and I dont want to ever live there. Maybe until that road is completed. Though planning on getting a flat soon and im thinking Ojodu.

However, your wifes comfortability it paramount so for now since your child is a baby im sure you can get a two bed at Gbagada for 300.

That way the traffice your wife has to face is just 3MB and you will have easy access to Ikeja too. Remember there is kid involved and you just have to make sure your wife has easy access to home, school, work and all.

I pray people who have experience with the location you mention can help further.

Why don't you get a 2 bedroom flat in a closer location? On the long run, I think the physical stress and other side effects accrued from living far from ur workplace is costlier than the savings you will be making.

Will she be taking the boat to VI from ur new location? That's shorter but very expensive as well and if she will be going by road, that's suicidal, I don't encourage it at all. The long hrs in traffic, the dangers on the road, the long absence from home and kids...to me it's never worth it.

I know quite well that it's never going to be an easy and comfortable choice to make. Our intended movement to Ikorodu is not a matter of trying to cut cost. We would be paying as much at Ikorodu as we we're at the moment - 300k per annum. Our experiences where we're staying presently is making us to ensure we get as much value for our money at our new apartment. And this Ikorodu apartment is offering just that!

Myself and my wife both know that the Ikorodu option would come with its stress. But, yours sincerely, I'd gladly consider 2 or 3bed option in 'town' here that wouldn't eat into my pocket too much, and one that'd offer me the option of 1yr rent.
Re: Do You Live In Ikorodu? by tollu: 9:53pm On Jan 02, 2015
Ikorodu ke? What are they doing there?
This Lagos stress is way too much for me to consider adding unnecessary wahala to it.
Leave home 4, get home 11. Tah!

Since you and your wife don't work around Ketu then please forget that Ikorodu option. I'd rather live in a one bed in "town" than a duplex in Ikorodu and go through the stressful Lagos commute from Ikorodu to VI.
Intensify your search, you'll get better options.

Ikorodu comes with a lot of stress. The traffic is killing, its not Worth It.

I know a lot of people that packed into their own apartments in Ikorodu but had to return back to rented apartment in Maryland because they couldn't cope with the stress.

Maybe there is something we don't know, what value are you talking about really? Closeness to some family or school? the large and spacious rooms?

I lost an old colleague of mine last year who was living in this ur new area, maybe her death had other issues, no one can really say but she just slumped and died on her way from work one day. She had been stressed out and weak for a while.
Another one is always having issues with his bosses cuz he loves to close early to meet the boat, while others don't mind working late when there is work to be done, to him it's a no no.

Anyways, it's ur choice but think am well sha.

The mind has never been made up, and that is why the search game is till on. I only said the Ikorodu option is the best shot we've got so far. But guys, let's look at it again this way. I'll be checking out another apartment this morning around, Alagbole via Ojodu-Berger (wherever that would be). Which one would you rather prefer:a 420k total package 3bed apartment at Ikorodu or a 610k total package 2bed apartment at Alagbole? These two apartments should have basically the same amenities based on the pictures of the latter that I've seen online.

Ewo tun ni Alagbole?
I have a friend who works in VI and lives at Ojodu Berger and complains BITTERLY about getting to and fro work. Now to add Alagbole to it. I wish I could help by offering you some available flats for rent, however, I know nothing about that.
Please intensify your search and look at Ikeja, Yaba, Ebutte Metta, Bariga, Akoka, Gbagada etc. My consideration is your wife.
However, if you guys can find another job for her on the mainland, then Alagbole is fine.

All the amenities and space you are seeing in the Ikorodu flat is not worth it at the end of the day.
From you quote about online pictures, it appears you are using those tolet.ng and co.
You and your wife can spread the word to your friends and colleagues that you are looking for an apartment, they might also be able to help.

My uncle used to live Alagbole and work in VI..at a point he stopped driving to work and joined thestaff bus from Berger. After that sef he used to come over sleep over at ours in Yaba like 2 or 3 times a week.He vacated the property after his two year tenancy ended and this was a bachelor. If memory serves me right sef parts of Alagbole is even in Ogun state. My bro abeg for your own sanity follow this advise

At bolded esp..my sis and her fiance got a 3 bed apartment in Akoka for about 400k believe me even if its 450kthe wear and tear on your cars, family life, stress saved etc is worth the 150k diff (if you can afford it)..Like tollu said apply a multi dimensional /multi channel strategy to your search.

Even in the UK where life is a bit less stressful than Lagos because of a more robust transport system (I have also lived and worked in Lagos) I have done the long commute as a newly married person with no children and then later one child its really stressful. Now with childcare etc I would not advise anybody with little children esp to do more than a 40 min commute to work (driving or public transport). All the best with your search.

How many kids do You have?
If you have 600k I Will advice You come to Maryland or Anthony and take 2 bedroom flat. The stress of living in 2 bedroom is Much less compared to the everyday traffic plus additional cost of transportation.
