The Nigerian Army urged the citizens to dismiss media reports claiming that the army does not possess the academic records of the presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), SaharaReporters informs. This has been confirmed by an army Director of Public Relations, Brigadier Olaleye Lajide, who tagged the reports as false. SaharaReporters addressed the military spokesperson via a text message on January 3, 2015, Saturday, asking to clear the air on the status of the APC’s flag bearer records. In his return, Brig. Lajide confirmed that the Nigerian Army holds all of the records of serving, retired and deceased officers since its inception. However, he noted that it is the responsibility of the officers to keep the original copies of their certificates. In case an officer loses his / her original copy of records, it is possible to officially apply for copies from the Nigerian Army. The spokesperson has reassured that inquiry would be processed in the fastest manner possible. Brigadier Lajide further stated that he used to serve as a director of records at the Defence Headquarters. He had seen records of former generals and other top officers. Therefore, the spokesperson had no doubt that General Buhari’s certificates were intact. In conclusion, Brigadier Olaleye once again tagged the claim by a major Nigerian newspaper that the DHQ could not locate Buhari’s record as untrue. It would be noted that the education history of the former Head of State is in the centre of attention after his opponents from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) used a ‘foul language’ and tagged him as ‘Semi-Illiterate Jakput’. Many believed that the PDP should be ashamed and should apologise for these words. Meanwhile, President Jonathan’s running mate, VP Namadi Sambo, also had troubles while submitting the originals of certificates to the INEC, declared that the documents had been lost in a fire. |
