Those who think that this bid’ah should be continued produce specious arguments which are flimsier than a spider’s web. These specious arguments may be dealt with as follows: 1 Like 1 Share |

The thing is all respected sheikh and scholars you mentioned up there are not the only scholars. They stated their opinion doesnt mean it is valid. What i notice is that modern muslims who embrace salafi creed seem to listen to only scholars from certain region (arabia-middle east or middle eastern scholars) or those they influenced. Is that what islam teaches?. Some of them dont even blink before they discard other scholars from Asia or Africa or elsewhere. Well, I have read and bookmarked article where ibn Taymmiyah(r) acknowledged Mawlud Nabi. Knowledge is broad and not restricted to section of people. Abdul -Qadir Gilani (r) was more than a century older than ibn taymmiyah yet modern salafis dont seem to recognize him. Sheik Gilani recognized Mawlud. Or talking about 20th century scholars, giving reference to Ibn Baz who also opposed Mawlud, his contemporary was Sheik Adam Abdullah Al-ilory who also acknowldged and participated in Mawlud. Knowledge of islam is not restrcited to only Arabs. As a matter of fact, it's said that rosul (Allah's blessing be upon him and his household) said in his farewell message.... "let those who are not present understand my message better than those that are present". This even indicates possibilties of non-arabs understand islam better than his own folks. Just like the above essay does not specifically indicate prohibition of Mawlud, it is only logical deduction. Those who acknowledged mawlud also gave logical deduction. I have learned a lot from Mawlud. That's where I reheased conversion story of Umar (r) and other stories when i was teen. Mawlud is not like drinking whiskey or beer. Havent you listen to them ? You didnt learn anything?. I am sure some of you who oppose this practices are most likely invlove in unlawful activities on the very same day of mawlud while others attend and benefit from it. Fact remains that if you are not invited and you show up at mawud and start shouting bid'ah, they reserved right to bundle and throw you out. That closes the argument. What i know for certain is those who do lots of dhikr in the open and secret, those who do beyond fundamental layer definitely know and see more than many middle eastern scholars. They have firasa(discernment). And it is reported that prophet(Allah's blessing be upon him and his household) said fear firasa of mumin because a mumin see with insight.....which many don't have today. dragnet:Really I was initially expecting a grand and jaw-breaking refutation from Sheik Fawzan especially when he says "flimsier than a spider's web". Anyway its a good try to those he challenged based on their advanced submission. Here's our own submission perhaps his adherent might be inspired to "refute". www.nairaland.com/2069130/mawlud-nabiyy-act-harmony-islamic dragnet: If sheik Ibn Taymiyyah denounce something, one need to get the full gist of his arguments. Apart from the fact that Ibn Taymiyyah used to refute his own very initial arguments, many a times his condemnation always based on 'evils/bad deeds of specific group', 'sect,' and not really 'act/practices that is good'. In the case of MAWLUD NABIYY, this is Ibn Taymiyyah: Ibn Taymiyya Ibn Taymiyya's opinion about Mawlid from the Collected Fatwas, Majma' Fatawa ibn Taymiyya (vol. 23, p. 163) and his lqtida' al-sirat al-mustaqim (p. 294-295) in the section entitled "The innovated festivities of time and place" (ma uhditha min al-a'yad al-zamaniyya wa al-makaniyya): "And similarly what some people innovate by analogy with the Christians who celebrate the birth of Jesus, or out of love for the Prophet and to exalt him, and Allah may reward them for this love and effort, not on the fact that it is an innovation... To celebrate and to honor the birth of the Prophet and to take it as an honored season, as some of the people are doing, is good and in it there is a great reward, because of their good intentions in honoring the Prophet." dragnet: Are these all? You forgot to add modern salafi-wahabi scholars. Wikipedia mention them (who denounce Mawlud): Dr. Bilal Philip, Zakir Naik. Following are FEW heavyweight Sunni Ulama who sees NOTHING bad with Mawlud Nabiyy Celebration/Commemoration: * Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Haythami (Born 909AH; 974AH) * Imam Taj al Din Abu Nasr al-Subkhi (756AH) * Imam Jalaludeen AbdurRahman Al-Suyuti (849AH - 911AH) * Imam Abu Shama (Imam Nawawi's shaykh) *Imam Abu Hamad Muhammad al-Ghazali (1058 - 1111AH) * Imam al Shihab al Qastallani (851 - 923AH) (al Bukhari's commentator) * Imam Shamsu Din bin Nasir al Dimashqi OTHER SUNNI SCHOLARS WHO APPROVED MAWLUD NABIYY CELEBRATION Wikipedia writes: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mawlid *Mufti Ali Gomaa, Chief Mufti of the world's oldest and largest Islamic university, Al Azhar in Egypt * Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the primary scholar of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, * Muhammad Alawi al-Maliki, Grand Mufti of Cyprus Nazim Al-Haqqani[citation needed], Habib Ali al-Jifri of Yemen * Syed Shujaat Ali Qadri, Muhammad Ilyas Qadri the founder of Dawat-e-Islami * Sheikh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, Grand Mufti of Bosnia Mustafa Cerić * Abdalqadir as-Sufi, * Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, * Gibril Haddad, * Shaykh Said Afandi al-Chirkawi, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, Grand Mufti of India Akhtar Raza Khan, Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musalyar of Markazu Saqafathi Sunniya and Zaid Shakir All subscribe to Sunni Islam, and have given their approval for the observance of Mawlid. They suggest that fasting on Mondays is also a way of commemorating Muhammad's birthday. For the first in English Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has published a book Mawlid al-Nabi Celebration and Permissibility defending the legality of Mawlid over more than 700 pages. 3 Likes |

You see, i don't have problem with anyone who does not accept Mawlud. But i say they should keep that to themselves instead of creating fitna over irrelevancies. And people that are doing these (refutations) these days are youths. And their shuyuk directly and indirectly support them. This is fitna. They go around looking for faults in others. Many of them on Youtube, self-proclaimed righteousness. They came from nowhere refuting these old men with their half-baked ilm. It's fitna for muslims to keep refuting one another over peanuts. Because of these rigid Muslims, many Muslims are afraid to say something. I am not. If i keep quiet only means that i want to avoid fitna. But sometimes, they need to be checked. There is hadith that describes those people, when he (Allah's blessing be upon him and his household) was talking to his companions about some people or group that would emerge in the future, he said they will claim to know figh, Quran etc. They will recite Quran beautifully but doesn't go down their throat. They claim they know better than others. I believe 100% that those people are in the world today. Their understanding of the deen is very narrow. It's very important to avoid arguing with them. 2 Likes |

dragnet: Ma sha Allah, let's see how sheik performed in this argumen below: dragnet: So what's the basis? Sheik Fawzan submits below: dragnet: This is where Sheik Fawzan blown everything. Indeed his argument is "flimsier than spider's web" First, there's no evidence from Umar for that sheiks' interpretations@bold. So such interpretation without evidence from the originator of the Bid'ah, is thrown into thrash bin. Second, does Umar's Bid'ah has a basis in Islam? The answer is absolutely NO as we shall expose later on, in sha Allah. Third, after Umar admittance of establishing a Bid'ah, he actually proved it why it was Bid'ah: "...WHAT A GOOD BID'AH (i.e. innovation in religion) THIS IS; BUT THE PRAYER WHICH THEY DO NOT PERFORM BUT SLEEP AT ITS TIME IS BETTER THAN THE ONE THEY ARE OFFERING.’ He meant the prayer in the last part of the night (Tahajjud)." ~Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 32, Number 227 What is better is the Sunnah of Muhammad (peace be on him and his household). * Observe the above (bold) quotation of Umar testified he established this Bid'ah after salat Ishai because of the word "but sleep at its time". Here Aisha introduced the timing of Prophet's Tahajjud: Narrated ‘Urwa: That he was informed by ‘Aisha, “Allah’s Apostle went out in the MIDDLE OF NIGHT(i.e. For Tahajjud) and prayed in the mosque ..." ~Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 32, Number 229 Prophet never prayed Tahajjud whether during Ramadhan or other months after Salat Isha. In fact the instruction from his Lord which he complied with reads: "And in some parts of the night (also) offer the Salat (prayer) with it (i.e. recite the Quran in the prayer), as an additional prayer for you (O Muhammad). It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqaman Mahmuda (a station of praise and glory, i.e. the highest degree in Paradise!)." ~sura al-Israi:79 In fact sura Mudassir clarify further that one needs to sleep first and rise up to pray Tahajjud unless he fits to stand all nights: "O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad)! (Qum)Stand/Rise (to pray) in the night, except a little. Half of it, or a little less than that, Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah)." ~verse 1 - 6 * This is what Umar too acknowledged by saying it (Tahajjud, Qiyam Layl) is better than this one (Tarawih, nawafil after Ishai) they are praying. * Interestingly, Umar himself never participated in that Bid'ah of his. dragnet: This is a misconception by Sheik Fawzan (and others like him) in the desperation to defend Umar's Bid'ah and link the act to the Prophet. * It is interesting how the Sheik sounds as if Prophet himself gathered the sahaba and led them in prayer. * Besides, What the holy Prophet Prayed was Tahajjud/Qiyyam Layl (Late Night Nawafil) as indicated in the 'Aisha's hadith NOT Tarawih (Ishai umar's established ramadhan nawafil) The hadith reads: Narrated ‘Urwa: That he was informed by ‘Aisha, “Allah’s Apostle went outin the MIDDLE OF NIGHT(i.e. For Tahajjud) and prayed in the mosque and some men prayed behind him. In the morning, the people spoke about it and then a large number of them gathered and prayed behind him (on the second night). In the next morning the people again talked about it and on the third night the mosque was full with a large number of people. Allah’s Apostle came out and the people prayed behind him. On the fourth night the Mosque was overwhelmed with people and could not accommodate them, but the Prophet came out (only) for the Morning Prayer. ~Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 32, Number 229 * Does this hadith indicated the Prophet prayed Tarawih? * Does this hadith indicated he himself gathered the sahaba as Jama'a and led them? * Infact Prophet was praying ALONE in his "small room made of palm leaves" inside the mosque. 'Aisha's narration left some vital information to discern the true picture of what actually happen in that four nights. Perhaps, she was inside the room of her blessed husband and could not get the whole gist. The following hadith shed clearer picture of the whole scenario: "Narrated Zaid bin Thabit: Allah’s Apostle made a small room (with a palm leaf mat). Allah’s Apostle came out (of his house) and prayed in it. Some men came and joined him in his prayer. Then again the next night they came for the prayer, but Allah’s Apostle delayed and did not come out to them. So they raised their voices and knocked the door with small stones (to draw his attention). He came out to them in a state of ANGER, saying, “You are still insisting that I thought that this prayer might become obligatory on you. SO YOU PEOPLE, OFFER THIS PRAYER AT YOUR HOMES, FOR THE BEST PRAYER OF A PERSON IS THE ONE WHICH HE OFFERS AT HOME EXCEPT THE COMPULSORY (CONGREGATIONAL) PRAYER. ~Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 134 What else does a follower of truth wants in the Tarawih vs Tahajjud saga? It is obvious one is Sunnah (Tahajjud) and the other was Bid'ah (Tarawih). Some Sahaba complied with the instruction of the Prophet to pray it (furad - singly) at home for a long time after the death of the Prophet, Abu Bakr until Umar brought his Bid'ah. The hadith reads: Narrated Abu Huraira: Ibn Shihab (a sub-narrator) said, “Allah’s Apostle died and the people continued observing that (i.e. Nawafil offered individually, not in congregation), and it remained as it was during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr and in the early days of ‘Umar’s Caliphate.” ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Abdul Qari said, “I went out in the company of ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found the people praying in different groups. A man praying alone or a man praying with a little group behind him. So, ‘Umar said, ‘IN MY OPINION, I would better collect these (people) under the leadership of one Qari (Reciter) (i.e. let them pray in congregation!)’. So, he made up his mind to congregate them behind Ubai bin Ka’b. Then on another night I went again in his company and the people were praying behind their reciter. On that, ‘Umar remarked, 'WHAT A GOOD BID'AH (i.e. innovation in religion) THIS IS; BUT THE PRAYER WHICH THEY DO NOT PERFORM BUT SLEEP AT ITS TIME IS BETTER THAN THE ONE THEY ARE OFFERING.’ He meant the prayer in the last part of the night (Tahajjud). ~Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 32, Number 227 TAHAJJUD vs TARAWIH: no of Rakah? The Sunnah of the Prophet: There are many Ahadith [in Sunni Sources] that our Rasool (peace be on him and his household) offered only 8 Rakah during Tahajjud (with an additional 3 Rakahs of Witr, thus making a total of 11 Rakahs). Narrated Abu Salma bin ‘Abdur Rahman: I asked ‘Aisha, “How is the prayer of Allah’s Apostle during the month of Ramadan.” She said, “Allah’s Apostle never exceeded eleven Rakat in Ramadan or in other months; [i.e. throughout whole year] he used to offer four Rakat– do not ask me about their beauty and length, then four Rakat, do not ask me about their beauty and length, and then three Rakat.” Aisha further said, “I said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! Do you sleep before offering the Witr prayer?’ He replied, ‘O ‘Aisha! My eyes sleep but my heart remains awake’!” ~Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 248 UMAR ORDERED 20 RAKAH A. In Muwatta Imam Malik, from Yazid bin Rooman: “People used to offer twenty three (23) Rakah Salat during the time of Umar Ibn Khattab”. B. Bayhaqi from Sa’ib bin Yazid:“Twenty (20) Rakah Salat in Ramadhan was offered during the times of Umar Ibn Khattab”. C. Mussanif Ibn Abi Shayba from Yahya bin Saeed: “Umar ordered a person to offer twenty (20) Rakah Salat”. D. Musnaf Ibn Abi Shayba from Abdul Aziz bin Rafi’i: “Abi Ibn Ka’ab used to lead people in Jamah for twenty Rakah Tarawih and three Rakah Witr”. E. Musnaf Ibn Abi Shayba from Ata’a:“Ata’a said he found people offering twenty three Rakah Salat including Witr”. F. Bayhaqi narrated from Abu al-Khaseeb:“Sowaid bin Ghafla (a Sahabi) used to do abulution in Ramadhan and offer five resting periods of twenty Rakah.” G. Mussanif Ibn Abi Shayba from Sa’eed bin Abaid: “Ali bin Rabia used to lead us in give “Tarweehas” and three Witr during Ramadhan”. How Dare Any Truth-seeker To Claimed Umar's Bid'ah of Tarawih is equal and the same as Muhammad's Sunnah of Qiyyam Layl! 1 Like |

dragnet: Ma sha Allah, good point from sheik Fawzan. Here's however, Imam Shafi'I who saves us time here, he writes: "Anything that has a foundation in religious law is not an innovation even if the Companions did not do it, because their refraining from doing it might have been for a certain excuse they had at the time, or they left it for something better, or perhaps not all of them knew about it." NB: Salafi doesn't pay heed or pays less heed to Shafi'i's (Hanafi or Maliki's)opinion. Ahmad ibn Hanbali is there grand-master. However, let's advance this submission: Let's Consider The Case of "RadiAllahu Anhum" It is a usual custom among muslim Ummah from Scholars to students to say after the name of any sahaba is mentioned: "RadiAllahu anhum". Alas! Despite the fact that Allah revealed the phrase in several places in the Qur'an for righteous among the sahaba, despite the fact that the holy Prophet (peace be on him and his household) read and re-read it many years before he died, despite the fact that the sahaba themselves read and read it, there is NO a single commanded whether in the Qur'an or by the Prophet or by the sahaba that we, the muslim ummah should say the phrase once the name of sahaba is mentioned. Likewise there is not a single documentation that the holy prophet ever say the phrase whenever he mentioned the name of any companion. And also, no companion has ever been reported to have say it when the name of a compatriot companion is mentioned. So by default it is a Bid'ah (innovation). But the fact that there is a root for it in the Qur'an where Allah used it for righteous companions, our senses complied that if we use the phrase also after the name of a righteous sahaba is mentioned is like following the 'sunnah (practice) of Allah'. Therefore, nothing wrong in doing so. *********** 'MAWLUD': Mentioned In the Qur'an If Allah, the most High, Himself sends 'Salam' to His Prophets (Yahya and Isa) on the DAY OF THEIR BIRTH, according to the Qur'an REVEALED TO MUHAMMAD about 600 years later; * Why the specific mention of DAY OF BIRTH, (DEATH and RESSURECTION) among all other days especially days of their struggles and afflictions? Were these prophets ever left even for once without Allah's blessings and peace upon them? * And He commands us to send Salawat upon Muhammad, while timing is not specified, but Allah's Sunnah, which does not change, and which He remind Muhammad 600years later (after Jesus and Yahya) is that of "Sending Salam on a specific days - of Birth, death... * No wonder He command His Prophet (peace be on him and his household) saying "waz kur' fil kitab...waz kur' fil kitab...Remember in the book...Remember in the Book...Yahya, Jesus, Maryam, Ibrahim, Ismail et al". Allah remember the Prophet to "Remember them for their good deeds, struggles. Does Muhammad (peace be on him and his household) ever forgot them before this specific instruction? * Who should we have "remember" most for his Good, excellent virtues, and "send Salam most", at the special day of his Birth 1000+ of years later other than MUHAMMAD? One of the very special activities of Mawlud Nabiyy is sending lots and lots of Salawat to the Prophet and remembrance of him through his virtues, this is done by reading his seerah. www.nairaland.com/2069130/mawlud-nabiyy-act-harmony-islamic dragnet: @underline, that's weird from Sheik Fawzan. So if the sahaba did not "compiled" it in one volume from the so-called scattered pages, Qur'an will be lost and disappear? This is weird when one peruse this noble verse: "Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian" The summary of the comprehensive message of 23years of the holy Prophet (peace be on him and his household) is the Qur'an. It is absurd upon the personality of Muhammad as the Messenger of God and one whose main work for 23years was Qur'an to left it Scattered, unarranged, in palm leaves, bones and piece of rock as this myth normally claim before he left this world despite the fact that the last chapter/verse revealed to him was more than 6months before his death, and he KNEW he will die soon. Yet, in this weird ideology, he never care for its arrangement or instruct his companions at his death-bed to compiled it! * Sheik Fawzan's Sunni history gathers: # Umar proposed to Abu Bakr to compiled Qur'an. Abu Bakr refused saying he will not do what Muhammad did not. Interesting! # Umar persisted with his proposal to Abu Bakr until the later concur. And they called upon ONE sahabi to gather it, Ubay ibn kaab. Interesting! # Unfortunately, the project was still on-going when Abu Bakr died. No indication Umar EVER continues with the projects for 14years when he too died. He must have been so god-damn busy! # Here comes the reign of Uthman, 16+years after the project of compilation started. Then, he finished it. No wonder there are weird Sunni sahih ahadith which says parts of the Qur'an was lost. And another weird statement from Khalif Uthman during his alleged arrangement of the Qur'an: he claimed he made certain arrangement based on his discretion because Prophet do not clarify before died. Then I ask What is: "Today I have perfected your Religion for you..." If Qur'an is not arranged, compiled, left scattered for almost 2decades after the last revelation? This is nothing but a fallacy and a rape of historical fact. Qur'an was completed in writing whereby the Prophet used to instruct the scribes to put 'this (new)verse' into 'this chapter' as continuation etc. Is this is not a sequence, orderliness and arrangement in writing and compiling? Then, here comes people who learnt by heart. Do they not read often and often, the entire Qur'an, for the Prophet for him to double-check? Do they read anyhow as per arrangements? * Muhammad's work of 23years COMPLETED in the compilation of the Qur'an. Therefore Umar ibn khattab testified when the holy Prophet (peace be on him and his household) ordered for pen and paper to write and document what Ummah will follow after him to avoid going astray, Umar said in reply: "...Enough for us is KITABULLAH (Book of God)..." A scattered pages, ill-arranged, scattered writting on the bones, palm leaves, stones and rocks isn't a BOOK (Kitab). ************** [b]What Uthman ibn Affan did was to Standardized a uniformed version for the Ummah. There was a master-copy of the Qur'an COMPILED before the prophet died. And different sahaba used to copy from it for memorizations and reading bit by bit to their convenience. This made their arrangements and orderliness different from each other even as we've seen today. 1st chapter revealed now occupies 96th chapter, last chapter revealed, al-Maidah, now occupies 5th chapter etc. Uthman succeeded in banning (in fact, he burnt) all other versions and lunched a unified version as we have it today. NEVER THAT UTHMAN COMPILED SCATTERED PAGES QUR'AN INTO A BOOKLET FORM. This is a side-talk argument. Allah will provide a proper avenue to to clear this "misconceptions of Qur'an was not compiled" just as Sheik Fawzan's misconceptions was cleared. Wa Salam Alaykum. 2 Likes |

Milad-un-Nabi ( ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺁﻟﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ) The legal and religious status of celebrating the birth of Holy Prophet (Peace & Blessings be upon him) in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah: And Indeed everyone rejoices except for Shaytan and his counterparts, because: ﺃﻥ ﺇﺑﻠﻴﺲ ﺭﻥ ﺃﺭﺑﻊ ﺭﻧﺎﺕ ﺣﻴﻦ ﻟﻌﻦ ﻭﺣﻴﻦ ﺃﻫﺒﻂ ﻭﺣﻴﻦ ﻭﻟﺪ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻭﺣﻴﻦ ﺃﻧﺰﻟﺖ ﺍﻟﻔﺎﺗﺤﺔ Translation: Iblis cried loudly four times, first when Allah declared him as cursed, second when he was thrown out, Third When Prophet (salallaho alaihi wasalam) was born and fourth when Surah al- Fatiha was revealed [Ibn Kathir in Al Bidayah wan- Nihayah, Volume No. 2, Page No. 166] Note: The above is a small introduction, the Qati'i (absolute) and clear proofs start from below which is a must read In shaa'Allah. Muslims rejoice on birth of Prophet (Peace & Blessings be upon him) because Allah has told us to rejoice on His "Bounties and Mercies" This following text shall be based on a) Qur'an and it's sciences b) Hadith literature c) Sayings of eminent scholars and fuqaha d) Counter refutation of claims made against Mawlid. a) Understanding through Al-Qur'an wal Furqan and It's sciences Proof No.1 Qur'an states: ﻗُﻞْ ﺑِﻔَﻀْﻞِ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﻭَﺑِﺮَﺣْﻤَﺘِﻪِ ﻓَﺒِﺬَﻟِﻚَ ﻓَﻠْﻴَﻔْﺮَﺣُﻮﺍ ﻫُﻮَ ﺧَﻴْﺮٌ ﻣِﻤَّﺎ ﻳَﺠْﻤَﻌُﻮﻥَ Translation: Say: "In the bounty of God. And in His Mercy, in that "LET THEM REJOICE" : that is better than the (wealth) they hoard (Surah Yunus, 10:58) Some might think in their wildest of imaginations that birth and arrival of Prophet (salallaho alaihi wasalam) is not a mercy, some even falsely limit the Mercies of Allah by saying that mercy mentioned here does not refer to Prophet Muhammad (salallaho alaihi wasalam) thus we should not rejoice, so in reply to such people the best answer is found in Tafsir of Qur'an through Qur'an itself. Qur'an states at another place: ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺃَﺭْﺳَﻠْﻨَﺎﻙَ ﺇِﻟَّﺎ ﺭَﺣْﻤَﺔً ﻟِﻠْﻌَﺎﻟَﻤِﻴﻦَ Translation: We have not sent you but as a “Mercy to the worlds” (Surah al-Anbiya, 21:107) Hence without any shadow of doubt arrival of Prophet (Peace & Blessings be upon him) is a mercy not only upon us but all worlds and creations of Allah azza Wajjal, thus we should rejoice as ordered in Qur'an (10:58) Imam Ibn al-Jawzi (rah) explains 10:58 in his Tafsir: ﺃﻥ ﻓﻀﻞ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ : ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ، ﻭﺭﺣﻤﺘﻪ : ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ، ﺭﻭﺍﻩ ﺍﻟﻀﺤﺎﻙ ﻋﻦ ﺍﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺎﺱ . Translation: ad-Dhahak narrated from Ibn Abbas (ra) that Bounty mentioned in this verse means Knowledge (i.e of Qur'an and Tawhid) whereas Mercy means Muhammad (Salallaho alaihi wasalam) [Ibn Jawzi Z'ad al Maseer fi Ilm at Tafsir, (4/40)] Imam Abu Hayyan al Andalusi (Rahimuhullah) also says: ﺍﻟﻔﻀﻞ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﻭﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﺔ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ Translation: Bounty refers to Knowledge whereas Mercy refers to Muhammad (salallaho alaihi wasalam) [Tafsir Al-Bahr al Muheet, (5/171)] Imam Jalal uddin Suyuti (Rahimuhullah) says ﻭﺃﺧﺮﺝ ﺃﺑﻮ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ ﻋﻦ ﺍﺑﻦ ﻋﺒﺎﺱ ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻬﻤﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻵﻳﺔ ﻗﺎﻝ : ﻓﻀﻞ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ، ﻭﺭﺣﻤﺘﻪ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ، ﻗﺎﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ } ﻭﻣﺎ ﺃﺭﺳﻠﻨﺎﻙ ﺇﻻ ﺭﺣﻤﺔ ﻟﻠﻌﺎﻟﻤﻴﻦ { [ﺍﻷﻧﺒﻴﺎﺀ : 107 ]. Abu Sheikh (rah) narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) That Bounty of Allah means Knowledge, whereas Mercy means Muhammad (Salallaho alaihi wasalam) Allah Ta'ala said: We have sent thee not but as Mercy to Worlds (Al Anbiya: 107) [As-Suyuti in Dur al Manthur (4/330)] Allama Aloosi (rah) explains that even Fadhl (i.e. bounty) refers to Prophet Muhammad (salallaho alaihi wassalam) ﻭﺃﺧﺮﺝ ﺍﻟﺨﻄﻴﺐ ﻭﺍﺑﻦ ﻋﺴﺎﻛﺮ ﻋﻨﻪ ﺗﻔﺴﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﻔﻀﻞ ﺑﺎﻟﻨﺒـﻲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﺼﻼﺓ ﻭﺍﻟﺴﻼﻡ Narrated by Al Khatib (rah) and Ibn Asakir (rah) that Bounty refers to An-Nabi (Alaih Salatu Wassalam) [Al-Alusi in Ruh al Ma’ani (11/141)] Proof No. 2 Qur'an states ﺫَﻟِﻚَ ﻓَﻀْﻞُ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ﻳُﺆْﺗِﻴﻪِ ﻣَﻦْ ﻳَﺸَﺎﺀُ ﻭَﺍﻟﻠَّﻪُ ﺫُﻭ ﺍﻟْﻔَﻀْﻞِ ﺍﻟْﻌَﻈِﻴﻢِ That is the bounty of Allah; which He giveth unto whom He will. Allah is of Infinite Bounty ( ﻭَﺍﻟﻠَّﻪُ ﺫُﻭ ﺍﻟْﻔَﻀْﻞِ ﺍﻟْﻌَﻈِﻴﻢِ ) (62:4) Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas (Radhi Allah) explains “Allah is of infinite bounty” as : (Allah is of infinite bounty) by bestowing Islam and prophethood upon Muhammad (pbuh); and it is also said this means: by bestowing Islam upon the believers; and it is also said this means: by sending the Messenger and Scripture to His created beings. [Tanwir al Miqbas Min Tafsir Ibn Abbas] Proof No. 3 Qur'an states regarding Yahya (a.s): ﻭَﺳَﻠَﺎﻡٌ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻪِ ﻳَﻮْﻡَ ﻭُﻟِﺪَ ﻭَﻳَﻮْﻡَ ﻳَﻤُﻮﺕُ ﻭَﻳَﻮْﻡَ ﻳُﺒْﻌَﺚُ ﺣَﻴًّﺎ Translation: So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! [Surah al-Maryum, (19:15)] So the days when Anbiya are born are days of "Tranquility" in sight of Allah. Proof No. 4 Qur'an states: We sent Moses with Our signs (and the command). "Bring out thy people from the depths of darkness into light, and teach them to remember the “Days of Allah ( ﺑِﺄَﻳَّﺎﻡِ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪِ ) ." Verily in this there are Signs for such as are firmly patient and constant,- grateful and appreciative. (14:5) What are the Ayyam of Allah? Imam al-Bayhaqi narrates in his Shu'ab al Iman that Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: The Days of Allah are his "Blessings and Signs" [Tafsir Ruh ul Ma’ani under 14:5] Istadlal from Ahadith Proof No.1 Book 006, Number 2606 (Sahih Muslim) Abu Qatada Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Massenger (may peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said: It is (the day) when I was born and revelation was sent down to me. This Hadith is also reported in by Imam al- Bahayqi in his “Sunnan ul Kubra” (Vol. 4, pg. 300 Hadith no 8182, 8259), in the “Sunan” of Imam Nisai and the “Musnad” of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal. It is clear from this Hadith that the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) was very happy about the day of his birth and so fasted out of gratitude. Fasting is a form of worship, so one can celebrate this day by any form of ibada. One can fast or hold gatherings or provide food to the poor, all being acts of worship. Proof No.2 Volume 7, Book 62, Number 38: (Sahih Bukhari) Narrated 'Ursa; Thuwaiba was the freed slave girl of Abu Lahb whom he had manumitted, and then she suckled the Prophet. When Abu Lahb died, one of his relatives saw him in a dream in a very bad state and asked him, "What have you encountered?" Abu Lahb said, "I have not found any rest since I left you, except that I have been given water to drink in this (the space between his thumb and other fingers) and that is because of my manumitting Thuwaiba." Abu Lahab freed Thuwaiba on joy at birth of Prophet (salallaho alaihi wasalam), even the worst of Kufaar and greatest of enemies is given relaxation in his Adhaab due to freeing Thawaiba by pointing with his finger, so Imagine the situation of a momin who rejoices on Mawlid, detailed explanation of this hadith shall be given in the last section of Verdicts from classical scholars. Proof No.3 Volume 2, Page No. 147, Hadith No. 1130 (Sahih Muslim, Dar ul Kutab al ILmiyyah) Ibn Abbas “Allah be pleased with him” reported: The Prophet “Allah’s blessing and peace be upon him” came to Madina and saw the Jews fasting on the tenth day of Muharram. They were asked about that. They replied: “This is the day, on which Allah made Moses and the children of Israel emerge victorious over Pharoah. So, we fast on it “OUT OF GLORIFICATION TO IT”. The Prophet “Allah’s blessing and peace be upin him” said: “We have more claim over Moses than you.” So, he ordered Muslims to fast on it If Jews glorify their days to venerate Musa (a.s) then we Muslims have more right to venerate and rejoice on day when Prophet (saw) was born, this is an accepted analogy as Ulama have derived this specific ruling from the hadith, which shall be mentioned in the last section with detail. Proof No.4 Volume 1, Page No. 241, Hadith No. 448 (Sunnan an Nasai’i) Hadrat Anas bin Malik (RA) narrates that Prophet (Peace be upon him) while mentioning his journey of Miraaj explains: Jibreel (a.s) asked me to get off from Buraak at Bethlehem and told me to say the prayer there, after which he said: Do you know where you have prayed (O Messenger of Allah)? You prayed at Bethlehem where Isa (a.s) "was born". Imam al-Bayhaqi (rah) narrated this hadith with a different route too from another Sahabi call |
