Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu are two notable past leaders who ushered in democracy into Nigeria with good exemplary leadership foundation that guaranteed better hope for Nigerians. One ruled a nation called Lagos while other ruled a country called Nigeria. They were both voted for in 1999 and as well spent 8yrs until they were succeeded in 2007.

However, no doubt their countenances today reveal that one is joyous while other is bitter. You may ask why! Babatunde Raji Fashola (BRF) ( SAN) succeeded Tinubu, followed the footsteps, transformed and takes Lagos glory to greater height. As regard this, Tinubu is ever gladden because BRF did not disappoint him. Fashola, a Lawyer performed beyond Tinubu's imaginations and becomes outstanding among his contemporaries.

But the case is adverse between Obasanjo and his successors. Since 2007, OBJ has been gnashing his teeth against his successors, not as personal hatred but because he observed his successor threading out of the track. From Ya'RAdua to Jonathan, Obasanjo regrets the intellects of his successors.

Addressing Market Women recently, OBJ frowned at leadership style of Jonathan, describing it as total disappointment. While making reference to the deplete of Foreign and Crude Oil excess reserves, OBJ admits the economy is diminishing due to Jonathan's incapability to take the bull by the horn as he is being subjecting himself to the pressure and dictates of the political cabals surrounding him.

According to OBJ, "...I'm disappointed in his PHd because I thought this should make difference but reverse is the case..." Quote from OBJ's book "My Watch".

Meanwhile, with reference to OBJ's bitter tempo against Jonathan leadership style, the media is awashed with counter blames faulting OBJ as grandmaster of Nigeria's backwardness. This however is a typical misconception from some bias and obsessed minds.

Apparently, a right mind analyst will know that if OBJ's successors proceeded and not deviate from the track set ahead for a better development by OBJ, we will not have sore story to tell today. The hardship will be limited.

For example in Power sector, OBJ's plans were forfeited and this among others is why Obasanjo is bitter. But it's unfortunately that many Nigerians nurture wrong mindsets against Obj's voice.

As a past leader, he knows better than we mere ordinary Nigerians and so he could see farther to the impending dangers that may befall the nation. It is time to welcome his voice.

Baba is advocating for CHANGE. We all need to open our eyes to avoid another years of hardship.

Imagine, supposing BRF has not satisfactorily performed, won't Tinubu's voice more thicker than the way Obj's is right now?

In 100% fold, I don't think Jonathan can be compared to Fashola intellectually! Prove me wrong please.

Finally, this is time for CHANGE!

God bless Nigeria

OP. Good topic.

It was Baba that messed up in 2007.

El-Rufai narrated in his book, 'The Accidental Public Servant' , how Baba missed the succession planning window.
They had an economic summit in Abuja circa 2005/2006. The Head of the Economist (magazine) Intelligence Unit (a Briton), pulled El-Rufai aside and told him about how OBJ and his economic team had done so well for Nigeria. He admonished El-Rufai (FCT Minister then) to talk to Baba about succession planning so that evil guys waiting in the wings do not come and squander their savings and achievements. He even confided in El-Rufai that he spoke to him because he thinks Baba favours him the most.

El-Rufai narrated in details how his meeting with Baba at Otta went. Short version, Baba thanked and asked El-Rufai to stop worrying and go back to Abuja. Baba claimed to know what to do best.

Few weeks later, Third term clamour started. grin

El-Rufai claimed that most of them in the economic team worked against third term. Notably, himself, Oby Ezekwesili and Nuhu Ribadu. He also claimed that Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Chukwuma Soludo more or less sat on the fence.

The net effect is that third term failed, Baba didn't have time to select a successor and he perceived everyone that was viable as an enemy for opposing third term.

He settled for the the least to none vocal governors against third term- Yar'adua (Katsina) and GEJ (Bayelsa). But Yar'adua was a sick man with no spare time for national politics and GEJ was.....well, clueless as usual.

That's how Baba failed at Succession planning because of his selfish interest.

By the way, I rep.GMB

comparing Lagos to the whole of Naija, is like pouring a drum of water in to a well. You need to travel around.
