a lot Of salvage cars are being imported to Nigeria everyday and so many other countries
Most of this cars are From America

are they bad drivers or what 70% of this imported cars are salvages

Most dealers even prefer them because they are cheaper and they fix them and sell them as clean title

But there are also clean title vehicles too
But they have rates of salvage vehicles based on my opinion

Not all Americans are bad drivers. Some states have better drivers than others that's just how it is

I have been thinking about this for sometime now. I heard it's expensive for an average American to carry out repairs, that's why they prefer to buy new ones.

To understand why, start with one basic premise - all cars driven in the USA have to be insured (real insurance, not the Nigerian version). Americans are highly litigious (they like court, well well!) and the disadvantages of not having insurance outweight any perceived benefit from sneaking around without insurance. Even small fender benders can generate tens of thousands of dollars in costs - repair to your car and the person you hit, and medical costs. Very expensive!

When a vehicle is in an accident, the first thing you do is call the police to the scene of the accident. They generate a police report and usually determine fault, and take insurance information. Pray that the other person is at fault! Then you call your insurance agent. Your insurance agent gets a copy of the police report (or asks you to get one). Your insurance company tells you to take your car to the collision shop. Usually they have preferred shops. Then they give you authorisation to get a car rental while your car is being fixed.

Now, here comes the convoluted mathematics of Actuarial Science and risk - The insurance company makes a determination as to whether it makes sense to repair the car or "total" it, after either visiting the damaged car or getting a comprehensive pictorial report of the damage and cost to repair (usually withing 24 hours). Example - you drive a 2010 Mercedes G500 and the collision report states that you need a new rear door and rear fender at a cost of $7000. The Mercedes is valued at $60,000 at the time - thats a fixer. On the other hand, you drive a 2004 Toyota Camry, and the collision report states that you require $3000 in repairs, where you car is valued at $5000 - thats a salvage.

Where a salvage determination is made, the insurance company pays you for the car, and the salvage becomes theirs. They then sell the totalled vehicle at an insurance auction. Usually a gentleman named Chinedu, Okoronkwo, Ehigie or Ola grin grin grin is in attendance, buys that vehicle for say $500, spends $800 fixing it up with used, broken parts and sends it to unsuspecting Africans.

Conclusion -
Its not necessarily a factor of bad drivers, it is an organized system of risk management and risk transfer.

Why would anyone spend $3,000 to repair a car that is valued at $4,000 when insurance can pay u for ur car and auction it as salvaged? A car that can be repaired in Nigeria for $500 would probably cost $2,000 upwards in USA because they use genuine parts and cost of labor is high.

To continue where Ravenmortal finished ;

Jinadu they unsuspecting owner of a tear rubber(trash bag) tokunbo Passat now found out that his Passat has a habit of going to the other lane when driving, the abs, airbag, check engine light comes on then 2 months later the car died needs a new TCU. Ganiyu the mechanic got the contract to fix it for N250k. A year later he got into an accident going 150kmph in his car his face ended up in the steering wheel wife's on the dash board because there was no air bag. Now his wife face looks like a baboon's butt and his face looks like a baboons butt missing a few teeth grin grin

What he missed was the car had air bags deploy, frame damage with font axle damage car was open in the junk yard for 3 months and it rained got engine bay and interior soaked TCU is recesed under driver seat soaked in water.

Those guys mentioned earlier did a shoddy rebuild with no inspection before shipping it.

Do u also know the population of USA is twice that of Nigeria. U also realize there are about 5 times more cars over there than here. Also they take record of every auto crash no matter how little it is. Compare to here where someone bashes ur car and everything ends there without the police even taking record. So do the maths.
