The North Eastern Province (Somali: Woqooyi Bari) is one of the former Provinces in Kenya. It has a land area of 127,358.5 km², with its capital at Garissa. Previously known as the Northern Frontier District (NFD), the territory was carved out of the Jubaland region of present-day southern Somalia during the colonial period.[1] It is and has historically been primarily inhabited by ethnic Somalis.[2][3]

On June 26, 1960, four days before granting British Somaliland independence, the British government declared that all Somali-inhabited areas of East Africa should be unified in one administrative region. However, after the dissolution of the former British colonies in the region, Britain granted administration of the Northern Frontier District to Kenyan nationalists despite an informal plebiscite demonstrating the overwhelming desire of the region's population to join the newly formed Somali Republic,[5] and the fact that the NFD was almost exclusively inhabited by ethnic Somalis.[6]

On the eve of Kenya's independence in August 1963, British officials belatedly realized that the new Kenyan regime was not willing to give up the Somali-inhabited areas it had just been granted administration of. Led by the Northern Province People's Progressive Party (NPPPP), Somalis in the NFD vigorously sought union with their kin in the Somali Republic to the north.[7] In response, the Kenyan government enacted a number of repressive measures designed to frustrate their efforts in what came to be known as the Shifta War:[2]

As of 2009, the North Eastern Province has a population of 2,310,757 residents.[10] It is almost entirely inhabited by ethnic Somalis. The main Somali clans in the area are the Ogaden, Gurreh, Murale, Ajuran, Degodia and other Hawiye.[11][3]

Are you sure about those numbers? The census results of that region was cancelled in 2009. Anywho, ethnic Somalis have interchangeable animosity that is worse than even the tribal animosity between Bantus and Somalis. Those clans you just mentioned above are right now busy killing each other. You may look disturbingly alike but you will never be one people. So get rid of those ambitions.

Their is no clan violence of Somalis in northern Kenya. And this was not the census that was cancelled, this is merely the population of Northern Kenya.

Their are no clans killing each other in Somalia let alone in kenya. Somalis are fighting on the side of government or al shabaab.

The only people those Somalis in Kenya are killing are Bantus who are headed to Somalia to fight (KDF). They are also helping their Somali brothers by making disturbances and killing and kidnapping tourists.

Do you know that any place with a large enough population has crime? Even in The USA in the biggest cities there are over several hundred murders a year.

Axum, crime and murder are one thing... Somalis fighting themselves is essentially like gang violence and it disproves your claims about all Somalis having the same goals and being a united people.

Somalis hate Bantus, they want to be part of greater Somalia, the same clans that live in Ethiopia and Kenya live in Somalia too and their fellow clan members are in high offices such as President, Prime minister and many ministerial positions.

LOL, You must be living in another world. Forget being Somali, Islam alone will keep them separate from any non Muslims. Add to Somalis hard headedness and their culture which is xenophobic. Look at Somalis they have managed to separate themselves in Kenya for hundreds of years, even the last 50 years as part of Kenya.

Even if they never become part of Somalia, the ability to use Somalis in Kenya and Ethiopia by their fellow Somali clansmen will always give us leverage to destabilize the entire region. Add to the fact that we are part of the Arab league which Egypt is too, that keeps Ethiopia at Bay. But Somalis marry Ethiopians as half are Muslim thus they re loyal to us. Add to the fact that many Bantus in Kenya have fought for Alshabaab simply cause of Islam. lol

History has been written, we are simply actors on a stage, the camera is rolling, the script is written the director is directing and Somalis are Somalis their fate forever intertwined with non Africans in order to destabilize Bantus and to get the rest of Somalis in one country.

1. We have used Arabs many times to come into Africa and they have helped our cause and in return we gave them a resting area and our ports to use and they enslaved you Bantus. After WW1 we signed treaties with Italy so they can help us go to war with Ethiopia, even in the 1500's, we brought in the Ottoman Empire against Ethiopia.

History has been written.

I've noticed that when Warya is challenged, he reverts back to his usual debunked cycle of tales to avoid facing the truth. And throws in his fascination with Ethiopia?

I conclude that this debate is exhaustively won by team Bantu because we are now being taken in the same old circles. We nevertheless haven run even more circles around the Somali. Good job my people.

Somali, there is a Swahili/Bantu saying, "a person who does not accept that he has lost is not the winner. "

yesterday in the news, the governor of mandera (a Somali) said 'Kenya army should stop protecting Somali and instead start protecting Kenyans', I almost chocked on what I was eating.
this was the loudest statement that the guys living at the Kenyan side of the border (even after all the past mistreatments and marginalization ) do not even for a second want any association to form a greater Somalia in the future. (apparently, it is safer living in kismayu nowadays than living in Mandela or wajir, courtesy of mainly KDF who run the show in sector 2 together with Burundi soldiers and SNA. and the governor was not happy about this since some kebab had tried to attack his convoy)

if you go southwards along the border. lamu's governor, was one of the happiest ppl when he was told of the proposal by the govt to build a wall along the border with Somali, which will eventually in the future go all the way upwards until it touches the Ethiopian border. and no single person (Muslim or/and Somali) has opposed the proposal.

Only Violence I hear is Alshabaab and sympathizers attacking convos and any non Somalia

Gunmen attacked a convoy carrying a Kenyan state governor near the Somali border on Friday, leaving him unharmed but wounding several people close to the spot where Islamists launched a string of deadly attacks last year, the army and media said.

Somali Islamist group al-Shabaab said its fighters crossed into Kenya and killed four soldiers in an attack on a military convoy on Friday morning, without mentioning the governor.

“We killed four Kenyan soldiers. We burnt two military trucks and we also took one car from them,” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabaab’s military operation spokesman told Reuters.

Al-Shabaab has vowed revenge attacks against Kenya after it sent troops into Somalia where they are battling the al-Qaeda-linked group as part of an African Union peacekeeping force.

Musab said the convoy travelling between Mandera and Wajir, two northeastern Kenyan towns close to the porous border with Somalia.

Kenya’s military said its forces had not been ambushed. “There was no attack (on a Kenya Defence Forces convoy), but there was an attack on the convoy of the governor of Mandera,” said David Obonyo, the Kenya Defence Force spokesman.

Kenya’s Daily Nation and Standard newspapers said armed men attacked a convoy transporting Ali Roba, the governor of Mandera region where al-Shabaab killed more than 60 people last year.

slowpoke, did you have to look for the towns name and meaning. How many cities in Somalia have arabic /perisan sounding names including the capital.

It is in every history book that Northern Kenya was part of southern Somalia, it was divided as Southern Somalia was controlled by Italy and northern Kenya was controlled by the british.

I have to tell you the history even though you are from Kenya, epic bantu failure.
I do not know where you read your retarded History, but Kenya's present day Garissa does not even stand on Somali territory but on land that belonged to the Korokoro and Malakote sub clans of the Pokomo. Garissa is named after Karissa, a famous Pokomo elder. That is something not even the locals deny. The name Garissa was given by the BRITISH. Not the Somalis who only moved there to water their animals at the Tana(The entire place was called Rahole by Somalis ) nor the Pokomos.
There is no 'Garissa' in Somalia. It is called Gerisa, a district in Adwal,Somalia. The origins of the names are completely different.
There was no 'Somalia' prior to colonialism. The coastal part of Somalia from Mogadishu to the Bajun Islands was part of the Sultanate ofZanzibar. An Arab-Swahili empire. Inland there was a patchwork of slave states.
THOSE FRIGGING STATES DID NOT EXIST ON THE KENYAN SIDE OF THE BORDER!!!!!! Kenyan Somalis were nomadic wanderers whose territory was not even defined (thus a Somali state could not exist in what is today North Eastern) because other communities lived right in territory that Somalis today claim is theirs.
Wajir for example was largely Borana territory with only the Ajuran Somali clan wandering in Boranaland and vice versa. It was the British who compacted the Borana into Isiolo and Marsabit, imported Degodia from Somalia and Ogadenis from Garissa into Wajir.
My Source:The Kenya National Archives in Nairobi .Those are BRITISH manuscripts describeing how they found North Eastern.

“It is a time to reflect on the past 50 years - to learn the lessons of the past and more importantly o celebrate the achievements of this continent. But most importantly, it is time to look forward over the next 50 years. Our continent is rich, beautiful and has all the natural resources to help us develop our continent. We have the potential to make the 21st century, Africa’s century.”

Notice he did not say Arabia's century so I would not make light of that if I was an aspiring shabaab militant undecided

Hassan sheikh mohamud

“nowhere says Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance like Somalia does! Somalia will be the shining example of African cooperation and support, and our renaissance will show the world that no problem is insurmountable. No depth too deep to recover from. 39 years ago, Mogadishu built the fabulous “African Village” in Hodan District to host the AU Summit of 1974, under the Chairmanship of Siad Barre. In 2011, African troops defeated Al-Shabaab from African Village and I can think of no better renaissance than to rebuild it in honour of those brave soldiers and the African Union and once again aspire to host the leaders of this great continent at an African Summit on the African Riviera.”
