Over 2000 people in Nigeria killed recently didn't draw so much media attention as the just killed 12 in Paris.

In fact news getting to me now is that world leaders attend Paris rally.

http://english.alarabiya.net/en/News/world/2015/01/11/Abbas-Netanyahu-to-attend-Paris-rally-.html

If this doesn't scream racism, what does it? I guess 12 whites are greater than 2000 blacks.

Re: Should We Call This Racism? by whirlwind7(m): 6:37am On Jan 12, 2015
Not exactly.

Ask yourself first: What was the reaction of Nigeria itself to the Baga slayings?
Did you know that the incident was first made public by foreign medias, before the local ones picked up on it?
The local media were focused on the mudslinging contest between PDP and APC. The citizenry itself have become jaded over the incessant killings by BH terrorists.

Those who got wind of the incident in it's early stages didn't see much need to raise any great alarm over it, because these sort of massacre had become common....until they realized the number of victims in one fell swoop.

The Chief Security Officer of the country didn't have much to say over the incident either (remember, he'd told us before that it's our turn to get our share of this global menace, and the earlier we got used to it, the better)
He was quick to send a condolence message to the French people, but thousands dying in his backyard isn't worth sweating over. So, why would you say the empathy shown to the French people over the death of 17 people, compared with the little attention over the death of a couple thousand in Nigeria, is racist, when even the Nigerian system doesn't really care about it's own?

You are addressed by the way you present yourself. You cannot get respect, unless you earn or deserve it. There is something fundamentally wrong with the black race. There is something horrifically wrong with a set of people who slay their kind, their own people, their own kith and kin, their own people who share similar language, similar cultural identity, similar ways of life, food, drink, dress and whatever, over a religion that was imposed on them by foreigners!

Tell me what could justify this? We are treated the way the world sees us, because we deserved it. We brought it upon ourselves!

Of course there were disapproval among Nigerians. This news also went spiral round the world but why no much attention beats me

I agree with u op. Bit on the other view, they are kinda used to hearing daily news of people being killed in Nigeria. And wen same things keep happening everytime,it no longer becomes a news.
Re: Should We Call This Racism? by PapiWata: 6:42am On Jan 12, 2015
Nigeria is at war, so, as tragic as the statistic of 2000 dead in one day sounds, it is EXPECTED that war will claim lives DAILY.

France is NOT at war, and therefore it is NOT expected that people will be killed there whilst simply visiting a coffee shop.

That is the distinction between these two news stories, and it has nothing to do with racism.

You still don't get it. Okay I will go with your logic but at the first time Nigeria recorded such killings, did this kind of reaction occur? Wasn't it way more than 12 killings?

Which medai are you blaming, NTA, AIT, CHANNELS even ITV in benin now have global broadcast and they didn't prodcast it and you excpet CNN or BBC to do it, truth is its our media that needs reform.

You're complaining about the media. Has President Jonathan said anything about the Baga massacre yet? But he made a statement about the Paris killings.

But u and I know CNN do broadcast news of killings everywhere around the world as it's one area of concentration of the station. So its not about our local stations not broadcasting it globally

Almost on weekly basis, people in d north are being killed and nothing is being done.

they have seen killing, bombing n other social vices in dat region as a normal thing na, so they have to concentrate more on where it is not normal and where something maybe done. So what do you expect them to do eh?

Even u gan sef i knw say u done tire to dey hear of this boko issue. If u continue doing one thing everyday (aside making money) u re gonna get bored.

So untill something is being done either by d people or government, killing in d north will always b usual

Honestly you made a lot of sense but why didn't we get this sort of reaction from world leaders when this terrorism in Nigeria was at its infant stage? You get the drift now. Also if something can be done about that of Paris, why can't something be done about that of Nigeria which has been recurrent and is still a threat.

OP don't blame the press. When more than 100 girls were kidnapped we all saw the whole world coming out to protest. But what was the reaction of the president? We stilled remember the show of Shame put up by the first lady. We stilled remember how the peaceful protest of ezekweseli and Co were disrupted. We stilled remember how it took a young girl from India to convinced the president to addressed the nation.

No, don't blame the western countries that values the lives of their people. Don't blame the press. The blame goes to all of us that vote in a selfish and clueless president.

The kidnap of the chio girls was not taken seriously by the western world as you think. That was just a bunch of media brouhaha without reactive actions by several world leaders like the case of the Paris 12.

Its not racism just that BokoHaram is the most stupid terror group that have ever existed. Alshabab or ISIS will never attacked its own community or support base or kidnap its own sisters. As I write to you Alshabab and ISIS has communities where the coexist with ordinary people in kismayo and Mosul respectively but if our stupid bokoharam wakes up one day, it will just walk into its own community open fire on 500people and say they are waging an islamic war or they are trying to discredit the Govt. in power. This is Pathetic. I am sorry to say this but Northern Muslims should be ashamed of themselves especially the religious and political leaders for allowing this rubbish to linger without coming together to put a stop to it.

Did anybody noticed that the killing intensified again when buhari certificate became an issue? Northern kleptocrats are killing their poor like rats just to get their dirty hands on Nigerian oil once again. It is a blackmail and they are using their suffering people as baits. Dissidents like athieku should be held responsible, not gej.
