N2.3bn Car Scam: Bankole, deputy indicted - As EFCC submits report to presidency - It’s a lie, says Bankole’s aide

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly concluded investigation into the alleged N2.3 billion car purchase scandal rocking the House of Representatives and its report sent to the presidency.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the final report sent to the Presidency indicted the embattled Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, largely for failing to provide leadership in the execution of the controversial contract.

Though he reportedly rejected his own share of the booty, his alleged failure to raise the alarm over the reported deal when he knew about it was said to have put him on the wrong side of due process and probity.

The preliminary investigative report reportedly exonerated him, but his endorsement of the controversial contract and his alleged refusal to back off when alleged fraud crept into the deal with Peugeot, were said to have made him culpable in the final analysis.

The final report also reportedly indicted his deputy, Usman Bayero Nafada, who was said to have been at the centre of the contract with Peugeot to supply 380 cars to the members of the House of Representatives.

A vice-chairman of a committee of the House of Representatives, who allegedly brokered the deal, was also said to have been indicted by the commission.

The commission had said that those found culpable would be prosecuted. Within the Presidency, some strategic offices had also been given access to the final investigative report.

When commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, was contacted, he neither confirmed nor denied the story, but pleaded for more time before speaking on the matter. The car purchase contract with Peugeot became controversial when it was alleged that the model supplied by PAN was not the same as the model paid for.

The excess on the payment was allegedly shared by top lawmakers in the lower chamber. The EFCC was brought into the matter by Lagos lawyer, Festus Keyamo.

Reacting to the issue, special adviser to the Speaker on media, Mr. Kayode Akinmade said “it's a lie, he was not indicted by any report.”

EARTHMAMA,

Nothing like tribalism, Nafada is also an Hausa man.

But, do not stress yourself, indictment in Nigeria is only a means for more popularity.

Remember, the report has its place under yar'adua's carpet.

The imuniti bode goerge enjoyed in Obj's regime covers all the so-called indicted men.

Pray that they don't increase next shady contract to supplies of 230 private jumbo jet.

Wonders happen everyday in Naija.
