Elections May Not Hold In North East –jega by kglamour(m): 10:09pm On Jan 12, 2015
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Attahiru Jega, on Monday said unless there is a significant improvement in the security situation in the northeast, next month’s general elections may not take place in the area.

“A place like Borno State, unless something is done about those that have been displaced, even return for the governorship might be difficult, if not impossible under the circumstances. To be realistic, we must say that it may be impossible to do elections in everywhere, in every local government, in every constituency in those three states” he said, while speaking at a forum in Abuja, organised by the African Policy Research Institute.

He however pointed out that the commission is working hard to limit the number of Nigerians that may be disenfranchised as a result of the insurgency.

He announced that the commission has made adequate plans for internally displaced persons to vote in designated areas in the north east.

“First and foremost, we know that there is many internally displaced persons in Nigeria but our focus is going to be on the north east zone and it will only be for internally displaced persons that are in the states”, he added.

Also speaking at the forum was the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, who called on politicians who steal the nation’s resources to be cautious.

He noted that “our problem is not in terms of wealth but in terms of distribution of the wealth; the social distribution”.

See your life..

When it is common knowledge all over Nigeria that the North East is GMB's stronghold!

Chai, shame nor dey even catch them pdp supporters again? How low can you get?

We all know that GEJ has been funding BH to bring down the entire NE, not only that but to cause chaos in the north so as to cause voters disenfranchisement. BECAUSE THE NORTH WILL VOTE ENMASSE FOR BUHARI, SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE FEAR OF BH STILL LINGERS ON? People will not come out to vote.

I thought you had bigger brains to reason that but your campaign of deceit is still on.BUT FAIL FAIL FAIL,FAIL, NIGERIANS ARE WISER THAN YOU .

But so you know, Just like the Victory of June 12, the victory over Abacha, so Nigerians will be victors over GEJ's Boko Haram!!

enjoy your night rest with this.

I saw this coming, Even though elections are held there, It definitely won't go smoothly and voter's turn out would surely be low. The government should just boost security.

I hope
such a warped thinking person like you don't find your way to any elected office because of your poor sense of judgement and gross lack of concern and empathy for the people you hope to lead ...

You're such a pathetic political goat..you don't even care about the safety of the voters...gush!

Nonsense.

It is a national election and every Nigerian should vote

No single Nigerian voter should be disenfranchised

It is the responsibility of the government of the day to ensure that all Nigerians have a say on who becomes their leader after May 2015

President Dr Jonathan can start by going to the North East to assure them that they are still part of Nigeria

No sane person in that region will even dare come to vote.. So its better to stay in your room and hear the news about the election than you making the headlines all in name of voting.

Too bad. But I'm not sure anyone can do better given the circumstances.
But should APC loose, this will be their major story to tell.
If these affected areas is what any party would need to win, they should better advice on how to handle the elections there.
Funny thing is, those who will insist the elections should be held in these areas will not agree to have their family members go and vote there.
