Guys,
If one were to invest idle funds, what sort of business or investments should one be looking at? Tried fixed deposits, but the pay comes in such trickles that i might as well forget it. Can anyone give me good ideas? And I'm talking investments where one is silent here.
Thanks.

First thing first, how did the fund get to be idle ? By idle fund I presume you refer to cash at hand after you have comfortably spent a major part of it or better still sudden unexpected in-flow of cash you haven't drawn a budget on. My question again, how did the cash come ? Of course I don't expect you to answer the question. My idea is wherever cash comes from is a pointer to where the cash should be invested(gamble and money doubling as exceptions). Depending on the volume of idle funds, there is no limit to how investment can be done.

If funds came from salary, special allowances,Christmas bonus etc from a paid employment then invest in professional certifications in relation to the job you have got.

If funds came from a business you are running, simply invest in same in increasing dimension.

In cases where it comes from a lottery, put is in a fixed deposit account for at least one year, then you will know what to do with it. Never rush to spend money you got from a lottery. Fixed accounts are for discipline not for interest alone.

If the funds came by way of gifts from friends or family, invest it in a business you have passion for. It takes time to grow a business if you have not been a business person. Getting business suggestions from a forum might not help much as you might not have the drive to make the business a success in the face of regular challenges. While you think of a business leave the money in the bank and ignore temptation to spend.

If funds came by illegitimate means, do a restitution and see your pastor smiley smiley smiley.

If you don't find the above interesting then consider real estate, you can never go wrong buying landed properties; Get involved in charity(like you did when you distributed airtime grin grin grin on this forum) ; Partner with successful businessmen with integrity ; Consult with business experts etc

Invest in your parents business,it comes with a blessing.

Thanks a lot for this. Very good post! I'll consider some of the options you've outlined here. The money source is no shady one though.
