Hello everyone! I'm so glad to have found this forum. Although I am an oyinbo from the United States (Michigan), for the past eighteen years I have been studying the ancient and profound Yoruba religion of Ifa, and 7 years ago I was blessed to undergo initiation into Ifa in Ogun state. I am in the process of establishing a formal Ifa Temple here in the Midwest. Please send some good thoughts this way and may the Irunmole and Orisa continue to richly bless us all!

Ore re,

You Oyinbo . , people gave our people your lying religion of Christianity, then you all grab our cultural rites.

That's something the devil would do.

If you want to help people,  first show them the lies of Christianity and Judaism.

You want to learn Ifa from an Oyinbo ,

Wasn't it Oyinbo who said Orisha was evil ,

So when everyone left the original way of life the oyinbo grabbed it, very soon (500 years from now) the oyinbo man will be claiming that Ifa and the Orisha is their stories. Just like they do in Greece and Ancient Tamare falsely called Africa and Egypt today by the pale man and other invaders.

I don't think this translates as husband of the young maidens.

Now that I'm taking a second look at it, it sounds more like "husband of the virgin".

Omidan means virgin, I believe.

You're probably thinking its maidens because of the polygamic cultural mindset.

I thought that Maiden meant virgin. Although looking at dictionaries online it is not always the case. Some say they are the same and others don't.

I hope the original poster hasn't been scared off by all this vitriol. This man is a babalawo, he has been to igbodu. Where have you been Kuns? I hope you are not one of those types that like to shout about africa and slavery, but when you are questioned about it it turns out that you don't actually know about Africa or it's history, or it's cultural traditions. It is not enough to just have black skin. I've met so many white people that are more grounded in African culture than so-called africans, you can't hold up a candle to them, nay even a matchstick, when it comes to yoruba philosophy, they'll laugh you out of the room. Go and educate yourself.

Please don't use Ifa as a platform for launching hate propelled missiles. If you have issues, there are other ways of coming to terms with them.

I can't figure what is especially interesting about that request.

Also, I didn't realise that austrian woman was still there. I thought she was dead or something.

in which state?

i don't know what itefa is either but I'm guessing its some ifa ritual.

Igbodu is Igbo Odu.  The Grove of Odu.  This is any sacred grove in which Ifa is worshipped.  This is where Ite'fa, that is initiation into Ifa, takes place.  Te in yoruba means to mark, to imprint, but it is often translated as initiation.  After Itefa a person becomes a babalawo. (ps. Ite also means throne, I believe).

There are Igbodus all over Yorubaland though not as many as there used to be.

I see!

Te in Yoruba also means to step, so it sounded like stepping on ifa.

may I ask why you're calling yourself pastor when in actual fact you're an ifa priest? You know you can mislead people that way?

Or, it can mean being stepped on by Ifa.

I am not in actual fact an Ifa priest. Are you that impressed with what I've told you? I have spent almost all of my adult life studying world religions and I am always happy to discuss much that I've learnt. Like I've said numerously all over this forum, My words should be taken as they are, don't accept what I've said simply because I'm a pastor (ad hominem). If anyone gets misled then they have misled themselves (a remarkably easy thing to do apparently).
