Following his slip in Calabar at a political
rally and his frail health, General
Muhammadu Buhari , rtd, the presidential
candidate of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) was flown abroad over the weekend
for further medical check up. There have
been fears over Buhari’s health as the
campaign heat up. Leader of the Odua
Peoples Congress and medical doctor,
Frederick Fasheun, has said that Buhari is
unhealthy to function as president, if he
wins the February 14 presidential poll.
Nigerianewsbox can report that Buhari has a
standby medical team that have been
managing his health since he launched his
presidential bid. Just before the APC
congress in Lagos, Buhari was under strict
advice to rest, as the aides believe that if
he strains himself too much his health
problems will easily become public
knowledge. Buhari is 72 and though he looks
spritely, sources say he is worn. it is not
clear what he suffers from but the
allegations of his health problem has
suddenly made this a campaign issue. That
issue is accentuated by the immediate past
experience with late President Umaru Musa
Yar’Adua, whose sickness and death in
office became a national embarassment and
source of much political problems. Former
president Olusegun Obasanjo denies that he
deliberately propped up Yar’Adua, knowing
that he was terminally ill.
Buhari missed the campaigns over the
weekend, including the one in Sokoto, where
Tinubu and other leaders filled in. He is
expected back on Tuesday to continue
campaigning in what is clearly becoming his
best shot at the presidency in 12 years.
