The spokesperson of All Progressives Congress, South East zone, Osita Okechukwu, on Sunday said President Goodluck Jonathan is responsible for the escalation of Boko Haram insurgency.
Mr. Okechukwu made the allegation, Sunday, at Eke in Udi local government area during the burial of one Godwin Aniakor, said to have died from complicated health issues, following his displacement from Biu, Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents.
He said Mr. Jonathan’s last week’s visit to Borno State has got nothing to do with the horrendous sorrows of Nigerians, arguing the presidential visit was election-motivated.
“What has that got to do with the death of our kinsman and the horrendous sorrow of millions of Nigerians? His visit is too little too late. I personally challenge Mr. President to tell Nigerians why he didn’t muster the political will to chase away the Boko Haram from the onset?
“One sees the visit of President Jonathan to Maiduguri as election motivated. Otherwise how can it take the C-in-C years to come to terms with such important show-concern visit?”
Speaking further, Mr. Okechukwu said “Methinks Nigerians should hold President Jonathan culpable for the quantum escalation of the Boko Haram insurgency, senseless killings and wanton displacement of people. For his failure to listen to elder statesmen like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and host of others and hence the under equipment, under funding and low morale of the military”.
Lamenting the agony of his kith, Igbos and other Nigerians displaced by the insurgency, he said, “My pain is that many Igbos and indeed bulk of refugees dotting the whole country are in agony and excruciating pains following their dislocation from their abode.
“How do you feel if you are my master Major General Anthony Haladu Hananiya (rtd) whose house and the entire Hong village, in Adamawa State was razed by Boko Haram fire? I am at a loss why a C-in-C allowed such carnage to escalate?”
