IN 1979, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, then the flag bearer of the Nigerian Peoples Party, NPP, failed the screening exercise of the then electoral umpire, FEDECO, for allegedly not paying his taxes as at when due, a requirement by the 1979 Constitution of the country.

It was widely believed then that the fallout was master minded by Zik’s political adversaries and rivals in the other parties.

The reason was simple: To cause him embarrassment
and put a wedge, albeit temporary, to his ambition and soaring popularity. It took a team of lawyers who hurriedly put up a brilliant representation on behalf of both the famed Zik and his party for FEDECO to reinstate him to contest the election which eventually ushered in the Second Republic.

Eventually, the humble, intelligent and popular aspirant, Dr Nnamdi Azikwe was frustrated out of the race in 1979 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Reminiscent of the Nnamdi Azikiwe saga of 1979, the media has been awash in the past few days with diverse information on the credibility of the certificate of the presidential flag bearer of All Progressive Congress, General Mohammad Buhari.

Some aged political analysts and the political historians in Nigeria have unveiled the primary agenda of PDP and President Jonathan to play back the 1979 game on General Buhari to frustrate him out by raising and accusing him with all manner of ridiculous allegations.

2015 election is however becoming a tribal game as Asari Dokubo is also gnashing teeth to retaliate the attack on Mr Jonathan in the North.

From all indications, it's becoming conspicuous that our FATE as Nigerians after February 14 is at stake.
