For the first time in its history WhatsApp is coming to your desktop.

The update has just been announced by new owners Facebook and lets users access their account via the Chrome browser.

To connect you simply head to the WhatsApp webpage and scan a QR code using your smartphone.

You then get full access to your messages and all conversations automatically sync with your phone.

However, there is one major catch as the web based service is currently only available to Android and Windows owners.


WhatsApp say "Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations,"

That means iPhone and iPad owners will have to stick to messaging from their phones.

WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook for $19billion and latest figures show it has over 700million users.

After the purchase last year, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, famously said that $19billion was a bargain.
