GEJ IN CALABAR: QUESTIONS FROM CROSS RIVERIANS
[In 2011] President Jonathan in his campaign tour of
Cross River State of Nigeria promised that if he is elected
he would fix all the Federal highways in the State.
He said that he would build a petro-chemical industry in
Cross River State.
President Jonathan promised to make the Tinapa Holiday
Resort in Calabar productive and profitable.
President Jonathan promised to provide a solution for the
Bakassi imbroglio and other promises.
[This is 2015 and] President Jonathan is yet on another
round of campaign tour of the country after emerging the
presidential candidate of the PDP for the presidential
election scheduled for 14th February.
While President Jonathan is billed to visit Cross River
State this week in continuation of his campaign stump, it
is worthy to note that he has never visited Cross River
State since 2011. With the sorry state things in the State,
here are some of the questions Cross Riverians should be
asking him:
1. Why have you waited until this electioneering campaign
to visit Cross River State?
2. What have you done for Cross River State since you
became a top official (Vice President) of the Federal
Government of Nigeria in 2007?
3. Have you fulfilled all your campaign promises you made
to the people of Cross River State of Nigeria in 2011?
4. You have appointed hundreds of personal staff in your
office; how many have you appointed from Cross River
State?
5. Are you aware of the fact that for the past years of PDP
controlled Federal Government of Nigeria; no single road
has been constructed by the Federal Government of
Nigeria in the State?
6. Do you know that the Calabar-Ugep-Obubra-Ikom
Federal Highway is in such a serious deplorable and
dilapidated condition?
7. Do you know that the Ogoja-Ikom Federal Highway (save
the portion that is part of the Trans Africa Highway
constructed by the World Bank) is in a terrible condition?
Even when your Minister of Works came on TV to tell the
world that you have completed it?
8. Do you know that the Calabar-Itu-Uyo-Ikot Ekpene-Aba
Federal Highway is in derelict and deplorable condition so
much that it is usually impassable during the rainy season?
9. Do you know the Federal Government of Nigeria has not
sited any project in Cross River State since 1999?
10. Do you know that Cross River State has lost its status
as an oil producing State?
11. Do you know that some parts of Boki, Obudu, and
Obanliku Local Government Areas have been ceded to the
Republic of Cameroon by the Federal Government of
Nigeria in a purported implementation of the judgment of
the International Court of Justice in the case between
Cameroon and Nigeria over the sovereignty of the Bakassi
peninsula?
12. Do you know that only three (3) Students from Cross
River State were awarded scholarship in 2014 to study
abroad under the Presidential scholarship scheme of the
Federal Government of Nigeria for the Niger Delta
Region?
13. Do you know that one hundred and four (104) students
from your State (Bayelsa) were awarded scholarship in
2014 to study abroad under the Presidential scholarship
scheme of the Federal Government of Nigeria for the
Niger Delta Region?
14. Do you know that part of Cross River State (Bakassi)
has been ceded to the Republic of Cameroon by the
Federal Government of Nigeria?
15. Why did the Federal Government of Nigeria under your
leadership failed to appeal the judgment of the
International Court of Justice in the case between
Cameroon and Nigeria over the sovereignty of the Bakassi
peninsula despite the fact that you constituted a
Committee headed by the Attorney General of the
Federation and Minister of Justice, Honourable Mohammed
Adokie (SAN) in September 2012 to appeal the judgment?
16. Why did you failed to intervene and settle amicably
the dispute between Akwa Ibom State and Cross River
State over oil wells (as done by former President Olusegun
Obasanjo)?
17. Despite your dismal and abysmal failure to fulfil all
the electioneering promises you made to the people of
Cross River State in 2011; why do you think they should
trust you again?
18. Why is the dredging of the Calabar Channel not
completed until now?
19. Why do you treat Cross River State with such contempt
and utter distain?
20. You order the transfer of some oil wells belonging
previously to your State (Bayelsa); why didn’t you apply
the same measure in the case of the dispute between Akwa
Ibom and Cross River State?
21. Since your supporters here in Cross River State say you
are a South/South President; why have you not done
anything for Cross River State (which is part of the
South/South)?
22. You boasted in one of your campaign stumps that the
PDP controlled Federal Government of Nigeria has created
many millionaires and billionaires in the country; how
many of these millionaires and billionaires are from Cross
River State?
23. Cross River State suffered all these when she gave you
block vote as a single party State, what would be her fate
now that other parties are also breathing deep??
