Facts About Being A Child Of God by Alexk2(m): 3:45am On Jan 28, 2015
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
Paul tells us; “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
So what exactly is this new identity we have in Christ Jesus? Here are three things that happen when you become a child of God.

You are Adopted by God

“You have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15). When you become a child of God, you are adopted. You may not have a good human father, but God is a perfect Father. He loves you no matter what. Nothing you do will change God’s love for you (Romans 8:35-39). Sin can hurt your relationship with God, but even if you sin you are still God’s child. God’s forgiving love is shown in the parable of “The Prodigal Son.” (Luke 15:11-32).

You Inherit God’s Blessings

“Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ...” (Romans 8:17). Becoming an heir means you’ll inherit God’s great riches and blessings. Jesus promised that he would secure a place for us in his Father’s House (John 14:2-3). As adopted children, he has chosen us and given us all the blessings of heaven (Ephesians 1:3,11). He has revealed his plans to us and enabled us to be heirs of His Kingdom.

You Begin to Reflect God’s Image

Children are often a reflection of their parents, in looks and in learned behavior. Since we are children of God, our Heavenly Father is the perfect role model. “Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children…..For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light...” (Ephesians 5:1, 8-10). As a Christian, you represent the family of God. When you become a child of God, you’ll begin to reflect God’s image. You can give others an impression of God by your actions and words.
When you fully understand God’s love for you as His child, you will have power to live a life that pleases Him. Are you ready to become a child of God?

We are led by the Holy Spirit.

Because of the saving work of Christ, we enjoy the new life of the Spirit. "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him." - Romans 8:14-17. As his children, the Spirit of God testifies to our spirit that we are his children in a very unique way.

God disciplines us as his children.

The trials and tests we face in this life prove our sonship. It also requires us to respond with perseverance. " And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” - Hebrews 12:5

We imitate and honor our Father in heaven.

We are to imitate God's holiness in our conduct. "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children." - Ephesians 5:1. "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:16. "Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world." - Philippians 2:14-15.

The list is more than these and you are free to add yours but most importantly, check your life and answer this question; are your a child of God?...if your answer is no, surrender it all to Him today. God bless you!

1. And in the same Gospel of John, you are also informed that only those of them who then go on to live their lives in continuous submission and obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ — God's Truth in the Kingdom of God— will through knowing the Truth eventually be set free by the Truth from slavery to sin and transformed into Sons of God - John 8 vs 31 - 36. Surely, you are aware that picking an aspect of God's Truth while discarding the others means what you have isn't God's truth but a lie still? undecided

2. Two things here

a. According to Jesus Christ, God only loves those who love Him and those who love Him are those who live their lives in submission and obedience to His teachings and commandments - John 14 vs 15 - 23. God said they are the ones whom His Love is stored up for and will be revealed to - John 15 vs 9 - 11. But here you instead claim that God loves all, so are you insinuating that Jesus Christ was wrong about whom God in fact loves? undecided

b. When a person enters into the Kingdom of God, the person becomes born— not adopted — of spirit - John 3 vs 1 - 8. How can a person who is said to have been born of spirit, and eventually transformed into a Son of God, still be considered one adopted by God? undecided

Problems with the above claims made, God said His love belongs only to those who love Him — those who live their lives in continuous submission and obedience to His teachings and commandments - John 15 vs 9 - 11. Also, one first has to become a Son of God through much work according to John 8 vs 31 - 44 - before one can then enjoy the benefits that go with being a Son of God. undecided
